Hey guys i have a presonus firebox that i wanna use it with my laptop and because my laptop doesnt have any firewire input i bought a PCMCIA firewire card hoping that would do the trick but when i connect the firewire cable with the card and firebox, firebox doesnt power up and thus cant be detected. Any ideas why ? (works fine with my desktop with firewire input)

btw its a NEC 32bit PCMCIA to firewire 1394 card

Thanks in advance

hey PatheinRaindropMoe thanks for the reply. yeah i was begining to think it was that. but however i would have to spend money again to but the 230v of the adapter as mine is 120v. know where i can get it ? must get the presonus one or any brand will do as long as its the same output voltage ?

also is there such a PCMCIA card that can power up the thing ? (what about the EMU1616 laptop cardbus version ? is it also powered by external adapter ?)

Thanks!

no prob

since you have the 120v adaptor, one alternative, is to get a step down tranformer and use the 120v adaptor with the firebox

if you wanna get the original or equivalent local adaptor, this is the 230v adaptor for the firebox, just need to note the spec, input and output rating. Input is our local voltage rating and output the required rating for the firebox. You will need an AC adaptor btw.

not too sure bout the emu one. But for firewire port and usb port on the laptop/computer(, theres usually a voltage and current rating of how much it can supply. Eg, usb port usually round 5v and firewire round 12v. If the equipment plugged in need a higher voltage and draw more current then what the port has, it will not power up and have to use external adaptor.

hey thanks again for all the info. guess i will just get the presonus 230v one as i wanna have portability. btw you have the firebox as well ?

oh and i checked the price for one presonus 230v. its 44 minus GST. ouch. maybe i just have to get those variable voltage types. thanks again pathein
