Budak|Bedok please read my post again if not carefully

i didn't said pay ! i said deposit ! and will give back to the bands who are playing
please read carefully!

Actually don't all the band do that sort of stuff like Dream Theater, they pay the indoor stadium for the venue, pay sistic to advertise their stuff, print posters, etc then they sell tickets get the money to cover up their expenses, air fair also, etc.
they sell cd, merchandise also etc etc
ain't it supose to be like that?

Google show/ event promoters.

heres the calculation orite....
each band need to sell 20 tics and need to pay deposit of $50...

1 tic = $6.50
20 tics = $130
dwnpayment = $50
Total/minimum/starting budget to perform at odiocrib = $130 + $50 = $180!!!

and if u manage to sell all tickets, u get $100 from orgniser
Still no profit earn by bands....so $180 - $100 = $80
then $80 is wat u need to pay to perform

so its prove that its pay to perform....tat the fact!!

ok wyldeboon i shall stop posting

to Budak|Bedok im so sorry but that's your way on calcalculating
trust me, belive me...im not other organiser
thanks ! if you're really unhappy about maybe it would be good we could stop talking or this. you have your way to define pay to play
i have my own.. trust me. Yes, your way of define pay to play is there but just only 1 part..that's all
hope we're still friends and let's move on. you do your stuff and i'll do my thing

@Budak|Bedok: the cost of renting equipments and the place is not free you know.

i second this.

but guys, just stay away if you're not happy with the terms set out. if its really a bad situation, and the demand is not there, these organisers will fade away sooner or later.

Budak bedok, you do know that organisers, or people in general who actually use their brains would like to earn a profit as well right? You don't see people bashing hospital specialists for charging $200 as a basic fee for a consultation session do you?

Don't like the way they do it, don't get involved in it, it's as simple as that. Bands that do want to get involved makes it their liability, it is no fault of the organiser that they ACCEPTED the offer to play. So lay off all the hating and bashing alright? Prick.

You must have done really well in Math!
Unfortunately, maybe not so great in English. :)
How about I pay you to shut up?

Its nice to see everyone debating all these. Hope something good would come out from it.

Everyone is trying their best to do something for OUR music scene. I guess, we are reaching the stage whereby, bands won't have to Pay first or Deposit First.

Now everything is rising. I mean the cost. So need to adjust abit. Be more opened for Good Ideas.

my band actually performed in such a gig before, @ arts house, and the experience is pretty awesome, we got the crowd really going.
However the show as a whole was pretty... underwhelming, cos mostly are the band's own friends and families, and those bands that werent too good kinda get lukewarm responses.

the organizer was such a nice dude, Dan, and overall, I really appreciated the fact that he went through the trouble to organize the gig for us. Come on, we sold the tickets becos of the rental of the place, the cost of equipment etc. Its not free.

Moreover, gigs such as these are huge learning experiences for small upstart bands like mine, i mean, how many "free" gigs r there for the amateurs to perform?

Without these organisers, we probably have a harder chance to perform. I feel that they are giving the Singapore music scene a small boost, dun be surprised, cos some good up-coming bands may very well be playing in such gigs.

Hi all,

Well i'm not sure if i'm on topic but, how do i start of playing in pubs and possibly get paid doing that? Can anyone help me out here? Any place whr its a good start for ppl with no experience in playing at pubs or sth? I wish to earn some cash by doing these sort of things.

Much appreciated!

if bands complain too much on the gigs issue, then just dont perform.. just concentrate on recording and releases if bands still keen on venturing elsewhere and promote their stuffs.. if bands not interested in venturing anywhere, just jam and keep quiet.. organisers have their rights to hold a gig or not,to have the right to gain support from the performing bands or not and have the rights to whether they need the additional financial for better promotion of the gig.. performing bands have the right to perform or not.. thats all.. cheers! if you want to make it big, just do it without complaining.. it just takes hard work, patience and believe.. people will believe in you if you show that there is no such things as impossible.. ^_^
