Partscaster/DIY guitar Appreciation Thread 2009

i bid $... erm no bidding? 10mins of video? using hp is it? how big is the file?
ok i just found a couple of old shots from hp & signed up for you tube, how i cut the footage?

I'm using the ArcSoft Media Impression software that has an option to cut the video, resize and upload to Youtube. I'm using a Kodak Zi8 to capture my video.

Thanks, guess about time I revert back to my old mac.

That Kodak cam is very impressive for its size!

I been wanting to try out iMovie ver 1.0

Indeed, it is signed by my guitar God himself :D Acquintance in the US offered to trade it for a brand American Deluxe Strat straight up when he saw it ol

Oh well. And it turns out the Japanese pots from TYMC won't fit the ones that came with this CIJ Strat of mine.

Lace sensors in the neck and bridge? What's the middle pup?

Just swapped out the pickguard and I think the colour's too brown. I'll go back to my mint green. Probably paint this one black and sell it off.

working on my project strat soon
here's the design that i want
PinkStrat.jpg

acquring the body and neck already. Not sure what pickups should i use on it yet
any suggestions??

it will be definitely a combination of Humbucker sized single coil(bridge and neck) and single coil(middle)

any suggestions? I'm thinking to go to safe direction by deploying lil 59-hs2-JBjr
I have another strat with lil 59(neck) and duckbucker(bridge) which i really like the sound

reezrock: the only pink strat i like is hello kitty..ehe
now im so into trying to do something like this one here for a change:

Hello guys. I'm a newbie in the whole partscaster process and I'm currently starting out on my first project. So, don't mind me asking newbie questions :p

First, I'd like to ask how much is needed to be sanded down before its ready to be wood filled and then primed? I'm still in the midst of removing the paint from the body using just sandpaper and my hands (Can't afford an oscillating sander). Here's a pic of what I have so far:

So, is this sanded down enough? By the way, if you are wondering about those 'patches' on the wood, I tried sanding them down but it doesn't seem to go away. What's the problem?

Secondly, I'd like to know if its possible to install a 24-fretboard on a strat-body guitar like the one in my pic. If so, where can I get such fretboards?

Hey, welcome to the wonderful world of DIY-ing haha! If you want to fill the grains of the wood, you have to send it down until the wood, up to the point if you brush your finger over it you can feel the grains.

But you dont have to sand it so far, you can just sand till its smooth and prime and respray.

Just my $0.01, people may have other ways but this is just mine.

Cheers

Thanks for the tip and welcome Kahuna :) I've sanded it all the way down and my fingers now hurt :p

Did you used a sanding block?

Anyway, on the question on 24 frets neck. There is always a possibility to do that but with some modifications to the body if the original routing was design to fit a 21/22 frets 25.5" scale length neck.

Broke out some flat black spray paint and gave the pickguard a layer. Now just waiting for the paint to dry for about an hour before I wet sand it to get rid of dust and any paint imperfections. Probably will give it a satin finish.

Wet sanded progressively with 1200, 1500 and 2000 Tamiya sandpaper. Wondering if I should go another step and use polishing compound on it.
