Partscaster/DIY guitar Appreciation Thread 2009

Hydesg: Superlead's work? Was thinking of getting a JM done by him but found a cheaper job elsewhere. Should be good! The yellowing of the pickguard on the strat is a bit overdone and concentrated IMO, but it still looks like a heck of a guitar.

hmmm, may i know where did you get your JM done? care to share?

Considering getting a relic tele / strat, probably a tele.

Thanks!

for aged guitar parts, you should get some from MonsterRelic. they do relics on guitars and even metal parts. check out their website and feast your eyes on their aged pickguards!

didn't know they are based in Singapore. you bought items from them?

^ Here you go: http://www.mjtagedfinishes.com/

They don't do complete finished guitars if I'm not wrong. They do necks, bodies and hardware. I had to order my bridge, pickups and electronics from elsewhere. But the cost was very reasonable.

Oh and MonsterRelic is French. Not Singaporean.

Based in Singapore man. Click on the tab "vintage guitars". the carpeting belongs to guitar connection haha!

Kelvin from GC is working with the boss of MonsterRelic. He supplies the vintage parts while MonsterRelic mimics them. Contact Kelvin, apparently on the website it is stated that GC is the distributor in Singapore. I've seen some of their parts (mint green pickguards) in the store. Can go check out the prices at the same time.

I've got myself a nice dirty green pickguard for a strat.I like the way they make the dirt very realistic around the pots and pickup holes. Its not made from coffee soaking thats for sure.

Thanks for the comment

Thanks. The wiring is actually toneshaper, from Acme Guitarworks, you can read about it on their website www.acmeguitarworks.com. It is a really cool gadget especially for tech idiots like myself who don't even have a soldering iron (don't know how to use). It allows you to change wiring (vintage, blend etc) at the flick of a few switches. I think the caps and pots used are also of high quality.

The neck is not Fender, I think it's one of those licensed by Fender, Allparts or something (not sure). This neck spec acually exist for their 1966 strat, but very rare.

The guitar plays alright now (strings .011) but I thin the nut is cut a bit too deep at the 2nd string, so the buzz is terrible when played open. Anyone has any suggestion where I should get this ratified?

huatsup: diy can? knock knock out slowly & replace new one.. tusq nut or roller nut maybe?

thanks for advise sir. i decided to go easy and went back to GC to fix it. Kelvin was really helpful and fixed it for me, adding the string tree at the same time. really appreciate that.

HELP!!!! i clear coated my guitar yeasterday.... now body not so shiny/slippery as my other guitars T^T .... how to buff the damn thing? can use hair dryer and some soft cloth or not?

Say that you didn't touch the coating since clear-coating it yesterday!!

I suggest that you let the project rest a few days and allow the coating to fully cure. After that you can try wetsanding and go for second coat and wet sand again.
