hmmm dunno if this constitutes 'news' but i saw a copy of the Pagans' long unavailable 1992 album Stereokineticspiraldreams (w the 1st EP as bonus tracks) at Roxy Records at Excelsior. 15 bucks only and wow some ppl cld be tryg to sell u their 2nd hand copy for 50 bucks eh?? only abt 10 copies left, seems BigO (who helped distro the cd) found some extra copies. of course i grabbed myself aone since my tape copy is long gone.......

the first 'official' shoegazing band on these sunny shores, ppl!!! a piece of history worth investigating...yes indeed!!! Anyone who likes Astreal and Stellarium better go get this!!

those Roxy brothers still have them? ohh myyy...
i bought mine from them, or from the now defunkt DaDa Records... hissshhhh...
just curious: is shoegazing a "new label/term" for ride/mbv/curve-like bands?
or it has been there then, all along...

Anyone remembers Melt Fanzine? The brainchild of George & Robin? haha...

The band Mother used to be shoegaze in the early stages of New School Rock competition by BigO/Levi's. And before Astreal, there was Breed who used to be more of Curve/Medicine sounding type of indie noise. Then there was Noel in a band called Suchness, pretty indie noise as well. And does anyone here remembers James & Charlene of Clothespeg?

We had Don Bosco in the band Daze, which produced a radio hit Sexy Little Boy, complete with the early 90s low-fi analog MTV in chroma colors.

Ok, now i really sound like an aging youth!

Actually i got a copy of the pagans cd at cash converters bedok, saw a couple of copies there might still be lying around.... And that whole 90s era was THE era to be in in local music scene......

Oh, I still have the 3 (or is it 4) issues of melt fanzine, thrill to kill fanzine, and a few others, anyone wants a photocopy can pm me, more than willing to 'redistribute' my precious treasures.... BTW, am looking for a copy(or mp3) of Nunsex cassette demo, Beatnik if anyone has, i borrowed it and was never seen again, sigh.....

heh... i likes Clothespeg and Mother.

Also Nunsex was teh secks! their WTC gig was a like a ritual with hooded fellas doing various poses! Got one girl in the crowd kena posessed somemore! Blackest of the blackerest metale!

Nunsex..... then there was Rocket Scientists.... and there was that band Drill who used a loudhailer and handheld drill during their gigs at WTC?

I remembered this other band, made up of students from American School, etc... they were called STILL. Had 2 demo tapes out, awesome lyrics. Very much influenced by Bad Religion, Joy Division, Fugazi (ahh... Bukit Batok CC gig).

I would say the local scene was "exciting and raw" back in the early 90s, now it's much organized, surging forward and thriving with weekend ground and online activities.

As much as the existing music companies offer their roles as Distributor, there really is nothing much they are doing on a broader scale to bring up the music scene to a regional level.

The age of the internet has allowed bands to hook up their own regional gigs by contacting organizers direct, promote and hawk their music online to someone in Poland, etc... but touching base here, how many copies of We Satellites has Electrico sold seriously? A few low thousands?

eh, can help me get a copy too?

Okay... I'll try to pop by these few days. Give you a call before I buy.

I think they have all sorta given up performing music and moved on with their lives. Met some of them on social occasions before. Suchness' Melvin is a fat uncle now. Hahaha. Pagit from Breed is happily freelancing in the media industry, travelling the world as when she can.

He was writing for 8 Days for a while and gave one of our acts a very warm review as well. :)

The last I heard he's doing his own short film.

Rocket Scientist's frontman apparently has a new act now: WE Gang. Not too sure abiut that. And yeah, I had those 2 Still demos as well. Heard they went back home to the States.

What about Sugarflies and Sideshow Judy? What happened to these female fronted bands? Overtaken by Allura and Postbox in this decade huh.

ok, sorry, going off-topic. It's a pagans thread. RIP to the chain of BOSS pedal effects that ever laid on those stages that pagans played. Those were the days when pedalboard and case were unheard of, musicians had to hand carry all their pedals onstage and takes like 15 minutes to hook up with 50% failure rate!

is heard the boss pedals from pagans been passed down to someone still in the band scene

Cheers for sugarflies! Their album still one of fave after all these years.

Some of these guys from that period are still around in other bands, adrian rocket scientist is one example, budi in wicked aura, ben harrison in etc, ginette in breed, er i mean astreal, heh.... And the Drill guy is in destroy all monsters...

anyone remembered this awesome singapore shoegaze band called Gentlyfall?

Yes! I remember!.. dammit i feel old...

Are they still around? a quick google shows them to be in Perth (??)

Hey asphalt, this might interest you. Just stumbled upon it: http://www.myspace.com/stillrest

I think Pauline of Sideshow Judy is back in town. She had this new electro act Holidays On Saturday for a while and I heard from some friends that the singer from the Sugarflies (can't remember her name) is now based in Boston, doing film and video stuff. No longer playing music.
