Overdrive recommendations

Ohhh hmmm..

Im really tempted to get the barber DD and the RC boost..

The tubezone is nice too but pricey..

Any owners of that one here?

tubezone....nah...

sounds good in the bedroom....got lost in the mix in a band setting. you'r better off using it as a boost rather than a main overdrive i reckon.

Xotic BB preamp stacked with the RC Booster is pretty sweet, but for the price there r better and cheaper alternatives out there in the market bro.

Actually, Xotic BB preamp is more than what you need, esp for tube amp, tune your gain and drive it to get some kick... :)

Never used it as an OD main drive, but I do use it as a booster, and no way in hell does it get lost... If anything, it sticks out like a sore thumb... I make sure, when I solo, everyone can tell... whahahahahaha...

Try the OCD v3, i prefer that one to the v4, although that's personal preference. Alternatively, i think there's a mod for the Boss OD-3 that shld fit ur criteria, but it has ..........limitations.

Yea what about hardwire pedals. Saw a softy post some of them which he acquired on the 2009 gallery page?

What about menatone folks :) Seems no one brings them in..

Don't mind if I post some thoughts...

Tubezone has a really unique sound. A love or hate affair. For me I love the tone it gives for leads but I don't see it in my set up cos I don't play lead :p

TS type pedals are kinda common to the point of over-used. But hey, we use what works, yeah? Had a Bad Monkey and currently a Biyang OD-7. On my set up (mahagony and humbuckers), it sounds mediocre at best, and muddy about 60%. Hence me needing to rid my Biyang. Perhaps will get it again when I get single coils. I like how TS type pedals serves as a tone supplement for distortion pedals though. Nice character.

Now looking to get a clear crunch type OD pedal for more blues and rock, so hence I am REALLY paying attention to this thread. Keep the suggestions coming!

Haha bro, hows my line 6echopark?

Looks like im settling for a Maxon OD9 ( analogman silver mod ) as my booster..

Main drive main drive?

Anyway man how are hardwire pedals?

I'm damn impressed. The Valve Distortion gives a very impressive heavy modern sound, without being Metal. A few more tweaks, and my Fender tube amp becomes a Marshall JCM800.

The DL8 is good and warm. It's got every thing built in, with an 8 sec delay, and a 20 sec looper that can be overlayed twice, giving 2 different guitar backing bits simultaneously.

The REALLY impressive one is the RV7 Reverb. I ABed it against one of the most DEMANDING reverbs of all time. My Fender Long Spring Tank Reverb. Believe it or not, the RV7 was able to REPLICATE the organic tone of the analog spring reverb. It nailed it so close, I wouldn't be able to tell in a blindfold test. I think keeping the dry signal true bypass even when it's ON has something to do with this. This pedal uses Lexicon licensed reverb tones. That's something major in the efx industry. If it can generate a true lexicon type reverb, then I'm impressed.

And I am.

Yep... you're right. I never use it for rhythm... Always for leads as a booster. I hate the wet gain tone is has for rhythms...

The Crunchbox is a good one for your uses.

Then again, I think the Hardwire OD would be something definately worth trying.

Goose in ur opinion r the hardwire pedals any gd?

Good stuff...give it a try.

I mean its not the "sexxx" ( wtf moment...)
but stands up against most bootweak stuff...which is peerrty much like 'same ol same ol'...opamp based.
