our utility bills...

the major electric suckers are:

1. Air conditioning
2. water heater
3. ironing

Well, i guess if you could minimize these, there would be a huge decrease in your bills.

my housse recently got it's electricity bill and it was 500 dollars. @_@ only two AC are on at night and theres a total of 7 ppl >_>

aircon can use those inverter type save a bit of $$ and water heater can use the gas type and i make it like a central water heater to supply hot water to 2 toilets and the kitchen sink. i got it free when i sign up for the gas thing and my gas bills total is like $20+ a mth.

use the PCs less often. that's a power sucker

I switched from my PC to my Macbook for some time. It drops the electricity bills by a little bit

According to wiki, we are the 3rd? most expensive place to live in in Asia. The first is Tokyo I think. Too bad protesting is ilegal here, if not I bet we'd be on the streets with signs and stuff already lol.

WELCOME TO OUR PSUEDO DEMOCRACY. I HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR STAY.

Really ah? We're rated the 3rd most expensive city to live in?? WOW.

On a separate note, did you guys get your ERS money thingy from the govt?

Does anyone know which is the 3rd most cheap country to live in? Would we want to switch place with them?

Quote from wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore

"In 2009, the Economist Intelligence Unit ranked Singapore the tenth most expensive city in the world in which to live—the third in Asia, after Tokyo and Osaka.[13] The 2009 Cost of Living survey, by consultancy firm Mercer, has ranked Singapore similarly as the tenth most expensive city for expatriates to live in."

wyldeboon, I don't think china can be 10th... I'm sure you could live in one of the suburbs there or something, unless you get burgled and some bugger goes around using your credit card or something, then it's expensive lol

I dont know how they do the survey but today's lunch cost me HK$40 for a plate of steamed eggs with (a few) slice of pork. That is about S$8.

If you see the apartment in HK, our HDB feels like S$2 million.

I will definitely pay a bit more and stay in Singapore then to live in a cheaper but less comfortable place. I am just too pampered.

Me too, the thing I don't like is the way prices and costs of basic necessities keeps increasing. It's all costly enough as it is already.

my AC spoil, or i think my father purposely say spoil and not try to switch it on. =.-"

yeah i thought those oil prices and electricity bill are rather proportionate. oil price fell, but not the bills? in short everything rises except our salaries.

still, i feel fortunate living in Singapore.

Yep, Singapore is no doubt an expensive place to live in but it's pretty safe lah as compared to like Brazil and USA.

Can't go out alone at night when in Brazil. Really not safe at all.

And SG is a developed country lah. We're also respected by powerful nations.

Plus, where else in the world can you find, eat and SMELL the world's smelliest fruit?

It is interesting to note that our bills are quite varied. This means, we all use different amount. Well, we pay for what we use. Use more, pay more. Use less pay less. It is fair.

Use Less, still pay More... Cause Govt say pay more... Just Pay lah.
