OM: Once I Was

This is a ballad I wrote for a friend's wedding a couple of years ago.. I just managed to record it just now at home. In this recording, I sang the vocals into an SM58 into a small behringer mixer then soundcard. I banged out the chords on my Yamaha P-200. Added a touch of strings in the second chorus. I'm not really a singer..i'm more of a musician so pardon the singing.

Hm...
I'm thinking if the verse (not the chorus) was sing in an octave higher (or in other key that slightly higher than current one), will it sounds better?

about singing the verse an octave higher, i think i cannot reach the notes cause it will hit a high G in the verse(!!), but i think the dynamics of the song is that the chorus should go up to give the song a 'lift', hence the verse is lower, but cannot too low also because of the wide dynamic range.. i compromised both sides using the key of Bb.. the highest note on the chorus is an Eb.. just able to reach.. and lowest note is a G i think.
