Decided to scale down again! Big kits are really fun, but small kits have their own kind of fun too.

So now I'm keeping it simple with...

...two Tama Warlord snares

...two rides

...and errr, two crashes being used as 18" hihats!

And here's the full kit:
_DSC00052.jpg

10x8 Pearl Target tom
14x14 Pearl Target floor tom
20x16 Pearl Target bass
(refinished in natural crimson)

14x6 Tama "Warlord" Spartan snare
14x6 Tama "Warlord" Valkyrie side snare

18" hihats: Zildjian Avedis fast crash over Sabian AA Orchestral Viannese
17" Turkish Classic crash
21" Sabian Signature/Vault fierce ride (being used as a crash-ride)
22" Sabian L.E. Carmine Appice Vintage Rock Ride

Meinl hand-hammered cowbell

Tama Iron Cobra flexiglide double pedal
Tama Iron Cobra flexiglide hi-hat stand (with Pearl drop-clutch)
Pearl snare stands and cymbal stands (various models)

Just bought the hihat stand from another member here recently, so I'll be selling my previous stand soon..... once I get down to taking photos of it. It's really nice and smooth to use.

I'm in love with big cymbals at the moment, and I think this will last me a while. Hoping to get another nice thin ride soon that I can use as a crash-ride, thinking of the Sweet Ride or Vault Artisan... when I can afford it xP

Hows that 18 hats comin? I've heard reviews about not using Zildjian/Sabian pairing cos their 18" may be a bit different but seems like it has worked for you. How's the sound like?

How do the two rides complement each other?
Neat setup!

You're using 18s too right! Saw your stuff... hahaha I really should record and post up. The top is rather thin, the bottom is kinda medium-heavy so I'm getting this really fat washy sound out of it. It has enough stick definition for my needs, the foot chick is pretty solid.

I guess you mean different sizes? I didn't really notice anything major, but I guess if I look really closely maybe I'll see a difference.

The two rides are worlds apart.... well, they have a similarity- they're both LOUD. But that aside, the Fierce ride is dark and complex and dry, while the 3.6kg vintage rock ride is really pingy and very well defined. And definitely not crashable, while I'm using the Fierce Ride as a crash-ride. It's surprisingly crashable, probably because the dryness lets the sound fall off quite fast. Well, that's what I'm getting right now, haven't really tested it as a crash that much.

This current setup is really fun to play with.

You can rewrap over your existing wrap- that's temporary, so you can take it off and change back to your original wrap if you want. But I think that would dampen the sound a *little*. Anyway, don't you find it tricky to hit the toms above your hihat properly? I tried doing that before but it gave me a headache- that's why I gave up trying to use a 3-up-2-down...

Alvin:
Ohhh didn't know you're playing with Yazzit (the bassist) now! He is an old friend and camp mate. Awesome groovy bassist and a funny fella too! :D

My Pearlie Greens. And edible drumsticks.

Just shipped them in from overseas as I could not wait any longer. I'm very happy with the value for money deal I got. Great drums at a great price. But could do better with the stickers though. My Optimount labels keep coming off. Can't stick properly onto the suspension system.

Nice! The optimount sticker is the same for every masters kit. All of mine are peeling off too.

The kit here sells for about $3650 inclusive of hardware pack. What is it like shipping in yourself?

edible drumsticks :)

So expensive?? I got mine cheaper! Hardware locally bought. The other colors look normal, that's why I got the green one. Sounds amazing. Value for money!

Any orders for these drumsticks? Edible ones! LOL!

Yup, for $3650 you get a 5 piece fusion size kit with hi-hat stand, snare stand, 2 cymbal stands and single pedal....hardware is 1000 series I think, so its high end.

Yours is a 4 piece shell pack right? About US$1500 maybe? Here we get the kit with a masters snare drum which is one of the most expensive piece in the kit. So if you put that in, total should be about US$1800. That adds up to about SG$2800 just for the shell kit. Plus shipping, and plus the 1000 series hardware it should be about the same no?

Price-wise, should be about the same I guess. But I didn't want to wait 6 months for it! LOL! Plus I wanted to get my own hardware during the sales that are happening here. Like Yamaha and my own Tama double pedals.

I wanted a different snare as well. Heh... I got my Ocheltree steel carbon snare from the states too. Can't find that here that's why. Some drummers prefer that actually. Carter Beauford uses the Ludwig Black Beauty even though he's a Yamaha endorser ;P

This is a global market and I'm just exercising personal perferences Since there are no parallel importers, I ship them in myself lor... nothing against the dealers here. They are wonderful and offer great products! So more power to them. I'm just really particular about "customizing" my own set-up. You dig?

Shells cost USD1499 before shipping, GST and insurance. Shipping costs? I forgot already because shipping co. messed it up and gave me a discount for that. If I'm not wrong, should be about SGD600++ before GST. Got it in abt a month. Heh...

I might be getting a Craviotto too later this year. Can't find that here as well ;P

At the end of the day, I am still going back to Yamaha, Swee Lee, Ranking and Nigel's shop to get what I always need on a regular basis. I bought lots of stuff from them already and so far so good! I really wanted to get my studio up and running that's why I went ahead with shipping in the drums myself.

Bought these stuff locally: throne, d pedals, hihat/snare/cymbal stands, clamps, cymbals and lots of accessories. Shells and snare fr overseas cos I want to customize set up.
