well as promised (in other thread), here's the pic of 'in-house' kit i used on my gig last wed.
its a black Mapex Q series (i guess). For the cymbals, i use my Sabian Pro hats, K Custom Dark Crash and Meinl Headliner Crash/Ride. My friend lend me his 20" Stagg DH Heavy Exo Ride and i also use 18" K Ride (in-house cymbal) as my third crash. I also bring my snare and my Ellims pedal. So here's the setup.
My Drum Kit - nice or not (I gave the below Kit to my Frienhd's son last December 2006) as his birthday present...and his son is drumming it everyday (the kid is 15 months old)
Believe me. This kit sound better than it looks - I have change all the Batter to REMO Centre-Black-Dot Type which were very appropriate for Concert Toms during the old days..and it works. NOt a bad sounding drums afterall. I bought this Kit 2nd-hand from a seller at Luther Music Classified.
This Kit sound superb, asked Bro Zen. This is because I have changed all Batters & Resonants to Evans G1, which gives this Yamaha very good Tonal Quality Sound....I practice on this Kit every night. Bought from Yamaha Suntec City new that time...play 3 months then stop.Kekekeke.
Very beautiful sounding Bass Drum and It comes with Evans G1 Batters. I have change all the Reonants to Evans G1, and the snare Batter I've changed it to Evans J1 (mean't for Jazz which is very thin).....I love this kit, but not punchy enough for Rock Music....it's a Value for money kit. An all Mahagony Kit. Bought from Luther Music NEW, in 2006 just before Chinese New Year.
My 1980 Yamaha 5 Series Kit Made In Japan including all HardWares- it's the old Stage Custom of today
If I'm not wrong this kit is made of Mahagony, but surprisingly it's in almost Mint Condition for a 27 year old kit, the chromming are superb, but because it's Mahagony the wood are softer - and likewise all Batters & Reso are changed to REMO. It belongs to my Director Mr Abel Ong, a Jazz Panists who graduate from Berklee School Of Music Boston & he major in Jazz Paino & Music Arrangement (a former student of Iskandar Kassim ) and the Owner of Trio Music in Penisula last time (distributor of Zildjian & DW etc)
My 1982 ( 7pcs ) Pearl MLX Kit (belonging to Mr Tony Zee)
Gosh I love this kit the most. This was Tony's Personal Kit till I bought it from him last year in 2006. The MLX is something like the Pearl Master Custom - MRX, a 6 PLY all Maple Kit. The only difference is this very kit is very special. The shells are all varnish Black inside and outside similarly(you see no wood colour inside - @ from the Transparent BatterHead if you observe properly). It's something like Jeff Pocaro's Kit Set-Up. I started to changed all the hardwares recently to Pearl highest end hardwares - the 2000 series, bought Eliminator hats stands, Cymbal stands, double pedals, snare stands etc and of course the wicked Pearl Reference Series snare. All batters & Reso also changed to using REMO (cause that's Tony's Preference) and the kit is setup & tuned by him during this Chinese New Year and Cymbals are all Paiste Signatures & New Signatures. The only thing left undone is - My order from Swee Lee of the Throne with BackRest is not in yet - This kit burns a big-hole in my pocket...but it's worth it - I love this kit and it's my most favourite kit
Note: - Here I really have to give credit to a very good friend of mine (like Brothers) - "Augustine" - he is the one that had help me do up both The Bass Drum Logo "EW" for the Yamaha 5 Series & the "TZ" for the Pearl MLX. - It was a superb job very well done and he is very innovative (he can do/modified the drums) besides himself being a very good drummer.
My 1969 Ludwig SuperSensitive Snare 10 Lugs (all Original Parts Intact) belonging to Mr Anthony Fong of Yamaha Music School when he was young. - Superb Sounding Snare that needs no muffling, no ringing tone - I love it
This snare is very unique - especially the strainer (most Vintage Drums shops sell this snare without the Original Double Strainer - as it's long gone)
