OD solo boost

hey guys. ive been thinking of getting an OD or gain booster to boost my crunchbox for solos. ive got a bd-2 but it doesn't exactly give any extra punch or kick to my tone for my solos.

was thinking of trying down a sahasrara soon, but kinda over my budget. looking at something below 200. any good recommendations? :D

do not dismiss the Tubescreamers (in all its incarnations). thare are also these to check out:

*Rocktron- Sonic Glory
*MXR GT Overdrive (i recently bought this pedal- drive sweep is imressive)

You might want to look at getting a main od/dist unit, rather than a booster.

The BD-2... depending on the tones you want, might not give you what you need when pushed.

When you use it as a booster, it does sound good.

So what kind of tones do you want?

haha. i play lots of 80s and classic rock stuff. motley cure, gnr, skid row, etc. looking for sth that can give me a much higher gain and punch as well as a more noticeable gain jump during solos

M.I Audio Blues Pro,

Shou Heng is selling one at a very good price in 'guitar-buy/sell'. A very good option, check it out.

80s? Classic rock? But less than $200.

I don't play those genres but I've got friends who do and they report favourably about the MI Audio Crunch Box.

You can try that, then have the BD-2 boost the Crunch Box.

Guitar --> BD-2 --> Crunch Box --> Amp

the crunchbox will give u wat u need for ur kind of music. it has the really punchy marshall kind of tone. would be great. for a boss u can try out a tubescreamer clone, it will make it more fat and able to cut thru the mix.

There's already so much gain the Crunchbox has on tap, I find it hard to believe you'd need something to goose that! Once gain is anything more than 1 o'clock, I've found that other pedals before it don't add much to the gain noticably - just noise. Stacked with a Hotcake (on low drive settings), there's hardly any difference in gain or tone. Stacked with a Keeley TS9DX Flexi on medium gain, it's just noisy and the distortion characteristic sounds slightly fuzzy. You may have better luck with a booster just for a volume boost if you're taking solos, rather than another dirt pedal. Another dirt pedal's drive will just colour the Crunchbox's sound - but maybe you'll find something that complements it. So far I've found the Crunchbox sounds best on its own, no trouble or loss of anything switching from rhythm to lead as it sounds great for both applications.

I haven't tried stacking the Sahasrara with the Crunch Box as they're on different boards. I can try that tomorrow if you like.

haha yea guys, im using a crunchbox as my main distortion, but im not too satisfied with my bd-2's lack of punch to boost behind the crunchbox.

Maybe u can try maxing the gain on ur crunchbox n then adjust the gain levels via the guitar`s volume knob...so lets say, my volume at 5 for rhthym n then increase volume for solos :)

Maybe what you need is an EQ pedal? If you need a boost just for your solos, you could use an EQ to boost your volume and perhaps mids as well to cut through the mix. Well this is just my suggestion, seeing that you're already using a crunchbox which should be able to give you more than enough gain..

actually, if its like this, i suggest a compressor before/after your crunch box and the mxr micro amp at the end of the signal chain to give a volume boost for solo's and such.
