Notes per second

Have read lots of articles that who and who or dis guy that guy could play how many notes per second. Do any1 know how to count or calculate? Is there ant software or machine that could do the counting?

Very curious to find up cause while we are playing then how can we count?

maybe they record it into the computer and count from the waveform?

Pls do not get me wrong i not saying that fast=good guitarist but very curious too find out how they calculate the speed.
