hey all. i just acquired a ibanez grx40.
well i bought it from soft.
its a S-S-H configuration, has scalloped frets in the last 5 frets and a killswitch.

wondering what pickups should i change it to?
i play alot of music. from pop to metal. i don't know what the stock pickups are but just wondering what would sound nice. price isn't a major concern.

thanks in advance. :D

SD Invaders would be one of the choices for humbuckers if u are into high gain stuff. i have that in the bridge of my JEM7V and it sounds awesome to me.

u can also take a look at Tesla's VR-Extreme or Plasma 7. I have Plasma 7 at the bridge of my JEM7V. sounds pretty awesome too.

i'm not very sure of single coils pickups. perhaps again, u can check out Tesla again ~
they make very very good pickups.

most people seems to change pickups rather than looking into their amps, amps EQ, pedals to solve the problem

What do you not like about the current pickups?

hmm. my pickup don't sound as defined as my gibson pickups. it just isn't as warm as a gibson pickup.

also, change an amp would be more costly as compared to a pickup. and what harm will it cause to change a stock pickups to better ones? it'll sound better now and in the future with a better amp. its an early investment. ^^

Don't forget wood quality. Gibson bodies are made of fine quality solid mahogany which produce a warm defined tone. :)

u want advise on single coil? i think u'd wanna look at tesla again. their single coils are HOT!! u can drop by standard value and ask mike to help u out. he's very helpful and will give u some tips along the way. i got humbled by him everytime i went there

btw u might wanna try some orange drops also. :D

because good pickups only make 1 guitar sound a bit better, while a good amp makes all your guitars sound a lot better.

1 good amp is worth a thousand good pickups.

Pretty much Gibson 'warmth', mid heavy as we call it comes from it's fat mahogany body, not just its pups ya. Furthermore it's a set neck and a non-tremolo bridge! ;)

well. you see, i only have one guitar and thats my beloved gibson. i recently just acquired my ibanez.
i'm a rather poor guy hence the choice of pickup replacement instead of amp. i hope to strike 4D and buy a triampMKII. hahahaa. thanks to the influence of leecs. :D

i'm wondering. would a VR-1 at neck Plasma 1 at middle and VR-Nitro at bridge be alright?
and thanks for all the help guys!!! been waiting long for replies. ^^
