next time want to delete my thread, at least tell me ah....

Kopitiam "Say anything under the sun"
what's the moral of the story?
u guys answer urself

me not in favour of any side..

anyway, its simple..if i'm an administrator, i'll juz pm him.
No issue.

Close this thread. juz kidding. :P

for the record, i do delete post/thread without informing.

this happen when the content is remotely suitable for SOFT.

for example:

1. what bus to amk from yck?

2. can we use sanitary pad to sound proof?

3. i hate 'someone', do you?

4. anyone got contact number of that chick from xx band?

some of your might say, "Anything under the Sun"? Ok, I think it was my mistake to just put up a sign without explaining details on the usage.

I have changed it to "Anything related to music".

* on another note, do we need instruction/sign/people to tell us what to do? like we go to the restroom, do we need a sign that says "Please keep the toilet clean" or at the MRT "Please stand behind the yellow line" ... we should be ok enough to do so without all these sign/instruction.

* also, do not use profanity, do not TRY to use profanity by using mis-spelling it knowing that there's a word censor on it.

haha, nah, its not the longest thread in history, but its the longest thread in history with nothing useful in it.

Which one? The sentence linking one?

Sometimes the threads start out proper, then things veer way off..sometimes things happen lah...

What should I call it then?

On one hand, i do want to encourage discussion on worthly topics but I do not know how to pharse it so that it is not use as a quote to argue the use of Kopi-tiam.

i tink, user like slapshock must have treated soft like a hangout place to find resources not only about music but anything under the sun. when he needs help, user like slapshock turn to soft.com. Surely he knows he can find some other alternatives for help. But y he opened that thread? there must be a reason.
this is good or bad for soft?

im aware bout S.O.F.T 'its music in singapore'
cant the users talk bout something else? ask something else?
maybe just open another section to cater for all these type of users.

If a user use something. Lets say eat chicken rice. that chicken rice is damn good. Will that user tell about that chicken rice to others?

but then again, maybe soft also got his reasons.
To save space and etc etc.
If users like me..hehe..understand your reasons, its fine. But is that always the case?

this is just my thoughts. add on guys.

Sometimes some comedy around is good lah, makes this a fun site. Like the misread DT lyrics... Can't be politically correct every singletime. But there are truly redundant stuff, plus flame wars (that's like pretty much gone now, thankfully). Can't deny that. I advocate nothing here. Just that I support some light-hearted stuff to be allowed here even if on the surface they dun really read anything related to music.

Sometimes things outside of music can help fuel creativity which CAN be channelled into music-making, dunchoo agree?

imo, it'd be great to have a place where one can discuss something out of music. like sharing funny vids one bumped online, or the jokes thread. maybe the sentence linking game was a bit too far off, taking up a lot of pages while each post have less than 10 words in it. but i really think we need a section for open topic. just that the topic should make sense. aniwae james, its u'r call. :D

Kopitiam VS ChatterBox

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forum/index.php?s=2853cf236ab10a521c3264d011d28cb8&showforum=9

form your own opinions afterwards. some might think that all those pointless threads make it a "rubbish dump", but that's what such a forum is for... Kopitiam... Chatterbox... idle chatter, pointless discussions, sharing jokes.

The serious issues are taken care of in the other forums on soft.com already, just like they are on singaporebikes.com

It's very difficult. On one hand, we don't want to be so strict. But off-topics are OK within limits. I think what is going on now is fine - ie James removing thread he thinks that's way out. The other thing is Kopitiam is now the heaviest posted section of the forum. That also means most people post about any other things other than music in a music forum.

My suggestion is putting the Kopitiam section right at the bottom of the forum page after everything else. While this will not stop people posting there, it does suggest that Kopitiam, as an off-topic section, is not the main discussion section in this forum. In fact, I think the entire section of "General Discussions" should be placed right at the bottom (after the "vocal section"). Other music forums I visited does this as well. Their off-topic section is the least visted forum - as oppose to SOFT which is the opposite.

Then post a sticky about rules posting in the Kopitiam section. This is something I found from Northernsounds off-topic section which may help:

---

This is an off topic section to deal with issues other than sampling itself. Many topics are discussed in this section. However we do not want this to become a section only for the purpose of discussing politics, race, religion etcetera. These topics are better served at blog sites there are many out there.

Although they mentioned that it is not "a section only for the purpose of discussing politics, race, religion etcetera", they did not say these are not allowed. In fact, there were some discussions about politics and religion etc. These were allowed unless something gets really out of hand - then the admin steps in to intervene.

Really, off-topic should exist to allow some sort of freedom. But when off-topic becomes the main thing of SOFT, we may have to change the name of SOFT to "Singapore OFf Topic Forum". :)

Yes and the reason they can afford to host so many useless threads is because they have a lot of sponsors to pay for their bandwidth.

For me, even though I frequent HWZ forums, I almost NEVER go into EDWM because the english and content in those threads make me sick.

to the slapshock: i kena before once or twice, i jsut came the next day expecting to find some replies, but the thread was not there at all!!

You said it dude..

i think it's fair to talk about topics other than music on SOFT, because we're all still musicians. musicians don't ALWAYS have to talk about music, and this forum seems like a place where musicians and people interested in music can gather to discuss both music as well as general topics of interest.

so if, for example, i think there's an awesome chicken rice place and wanted to share it with you guys, perhaps i'd start a thread on chicken rice and we could all have a nice discussion about chicken rice and maybe even organize a trip there so we can socialize with other musicians and network with the music community.

however, i think it's silly to post threads which can simply be answered using a tiny bit of initiative and minimal intelligence. for example, questions like "where is tampines" or "how can i get to sengkang from chinatown" only require a little bit of effort and practically no intelligence. you can google it, you can use resources like StreetDirectory.com, and getting an answer from online resources will probably take less time than waiting for an answer on the forum. so threads like that are stupid, and waste everyones' time and James' bandwidth. AND they annoy everyone with common sense, simply because anyone with any sense or intelligence wouldn't go to a forum just to waste everyone's time with asking questions that they can easily find the answers to.

so if you have a question which requires minimal effort on your part to find the answer to, please don't be lazy about it. don't clog up the bandwidth wasting everyone's time with ridiculous questions. if you're on the forum, you have internet access. use the online resources to get answers. and, this should be the most obvious, but is generally the least practiced, use your brain.

we are all users..but u and me are not the same..figure that out.
there's nothing to do with intelligence and laziness here.
most of the threads here, on or off-topic, the information can be found....u know where..

there are experts, noobs, "pros", nerds..all sorts of users here..
yes..to u that is a stupid, silly thread
do other users gain from that "stupid" question?
do u tink that thread will only have one reply and thats it?

hehe chicken rice..
i'll be direct..
juz my tots..
if soft's chicken rice is not good, soft will lose customers..
what if its good?
we need instruction/sign/people to tell us what to do...
we need them becoz some ppl need them.
if not, some ppl dowan to buy chicken rice.

i guess each of us has different style of handling things..
