Drum rudiments are cool.
But still, I don't wanna restrict myself to only learn the rudiments and all, and learn and learn and learn. I wanna have fun drumming too! To me, you have to put the rudiments "lessons" aside sometimes and really whack the drums.

Maybe right now, I'm focusing more on my pedal coordination, more than my paradiddles. LOL

Sigh, 2nd day with sticks, single paradiddles abit faster, around in between bronze and silver of the vic firth recordings... I wanna hit faster but its almost like physically impossible -.-

Got a question, why the small notes on some rudiments like Ruff? Are those ghost notes?
How do u play ghost notes on drums?

oh and ghost notes are played just by... playing them softly. heh. and no, the small notes aren't ghost notes (right?), ghost notes are the notes you hear in the middle of the funk groove that are played (usually) on the snare, excepting the backbeats on 2 and 4! those are ornaments i guess. like, if you learned piano, something like acciacaturas (spelling wrong? :S) and turns.

Nope. I don't have drumming lessons.
Simply because I don't have the time and money. LOL
I'm all self taught, from guitars to drums. :)
I play mostly by ear and also, there's the internet, YouTube and this Guitar pro software where you can self teach yourself pretty much. :)

FYI, Alvin is a drum teacher in Music Lab.
haha. You might wanna ask if he has slots for drumming lessons.
 
Ok thx, i can't seem to pick up drums by myself as easily as the guitar...
Probably cos the guitar is easy to learn, but was afraid of developing bad habits like my guitar...

Hard to change, can't play more advanced songs on guitar...
Totally threw me off learning any instrument for quite awhile....

Got cashflow probs too, cos i'm a student. With unsupportive parents, Lol common story -.-
Was looking through the website for more affordable lessons but can't find any recent ads.

I wanna learn DRUMS!!!
Btw, how much is the musiclab's lessons anyway, i'm assuming its ex...

I don't know but I think if you're really very determine to learn drumming, you will somehow master it no matter how hard it is.

Have you ever hit a drumset before?
Tell you what, if you have not hit the drums before, I can invite you over to my place to just try them out. (but it won't be a regular thing though. Hahahahahaha!)

But yeah, just try out, hit them and see if drumming is really what you want.

Maybe you should ask some of your friends who are drummers to help you. Or just refer to Drum's Resource for lessons. Better still, watch youtube for tips. That's what I do to get better at drumming...
 
No drummer friends, only noe guitar ppl -.-

I do watch youtube drum tutorials, but without a drumset, i can't do much...

I've borrowed a book from my school library, "dummies guide to drums" XD
But yea, no drumset to try on...

I'm taking A's this year, NS next year, so i wanna get lessons to speed up the learning process...
Wanna be relatively good by sep/oct, before i have my A's...

Then i gonna continue learning after A's till NS, then on every weekend break after BMT...

I signed up for drum lessons at Themusiclab under Alfe! :D
Being the street retard i am, it took me like 30 mins to find themusiclab, cos i just headed down on a whim, didn't check the address -.-
I actually stalked Alvin when i saw him in the region, thought he was going to themusiclab, but he went to fortune centre to eat... XD
So i very emo, loiter around untill i finally found it.

Nice friendly receptionist though, made me feel less bad about being a stalker/street retard...

WELCOME TO THE LOCAL DRUMMING COMMUNITY

Drummers in SG, imo, is a tad more special than other instruments. Coz we always have the problem of

1. No space in the house for drumset
2. No friendly neighbours to tahan our loud drumset
3. No acoustic set for us to play on, for a regular basis (If you don't own a set, if you're not in a band, if you don't have drummer friends)

So drummers over here, are a tad more united =) We help each other in the time of crisis, and support each other to play drums better

After 1 round of crapping, get to the main point =)

I'm a self taught drummer as well, been playing for 1 year 1 month for now. As soon as I got my first pair of drumsticks, I remember dragging my guitarists friends to the jamming studio, which they remind up till today

'Trey, that was a waste of our money'

But that was the first time I got to play on a drumset. After that, I managed to get permission from my school music teacher to use the school's old set to practice

Airdrumming is how I usually practice my drums, and when I'm on the set I just do my thing. My drummer friend told me to do double stroke at a slow speed for about for 15min, and I'll be able to get better. So I've been doing that as well

If you can't get your hands on a drumset at home, I would strongly suggest you go get a bass pedal. As far as I know, the bass pedal is highly personalised; some people likes heavy ones and some love light ones. The feedback of the real bass pedal is extremely different from when you do your airdrums, so it's crucial for you to have the feeling to your body

If you're not used to the feedback given to you by your bass pedal, you will be likely to screw up your bass, and thus disorienting you for your entire set, which would result in you going off time

That was quite a load I wrote there, hope it helps =)

Is Alvin open for 1 single lesson, like a crash course to correct all my bad habits in drumming. I've always been playing without someone teaching me

So far i'm whacking table tennis bats and my parents think its noisy alrdy -.-
Yet, they say if i can save the $$, they dun care if i get a drumset or not :D Contradicting...
So do you whack the wall with the bass pedal? Or a pillow?
