Get a piano. No digital emulations will ever come close the real thing, which will affect your practicing, and eventually affect your exam.

Do you mean that you have come all the way to Grade 8 with a cheap keyboard before?

i use to have a piano, and I didn't pass my grade 8 exam, it was few years back. now i want to retake the exam, u know..self-fund for the fee and equipment..

If you are serious about Grade 8, please get a piano. Of course, the next question is: why do you REALLY want to get Grade 8?

yes. i totally agree with the softies above me esp cheez.

If u gonna go for some serious classical playing, u cannot beat the real piano. it is almost impossible to emulate 100% how a piano feels. the keys on a digital piano is different because they use weights to give u the weighted feel. However, the feel of keys on the real piano are made by the weights of the hammers and stuff. heavier on the left, lighter on the higher notes.

Classical piano requires a lot of technique building, like finger strength etc which is wat hanon is for. practising techniques on a real piano will allow u to progress much faster than on a digital piano. also the exam is on a real piano, playing on the digital piano feels different on a real piano. u might not get used to the touch and fumble.

ask every serious pianist, if they had a choice, would they play on a real piano than a digital one.
