New local scene Blog especially for local bands of any genre

Maybe you'd like to suggest a metalcore band for us to do up an entry on?(:
We'll be mixing genres every week.

i only know the international scene... local i m unfamiliar =( theres the aussie metalcore band parkway drive coming down... maybe u shld do an interview with them... the best breakdowns in the world belong to those dudes lololol

Alright then, as this blog is for all genres, metalcore will definitely be one of them.

We'll be keeping it local for now before we branch out to our neighbouring countries(once in awhile) but this blog is mainly for Singapore's local music scene.(:

Everytime got such blogs, people tend to say , HEY WHY NO METAL. WHY NO METALCORE.
Can you guys stop being self centred?

u are so right =( i feel immense regret at my actions.. i shall now stop being self centered...

WHY NO BRITNEY! WHY NO JONAS BROTHERS! WHY NO JAY CHOU!

Keep it updated will ya? Good idea. We'll support you in everyway. Do msg me for anything u may need help in ;3

BTW

You need a less boring blogskin... I can help (or at least try~!)

biopromax: Hahah, yesyes, this blog will stick to local bands.Plus i dont think Britney,Jay or the jonas brothers needs our help in promoting them in Singapore ;p

Well, we've already done up entries on 2 metal bands so its best to mix genres before we get back to another metal band again.

theliverevolution: Uhh, yea, we've been trying to get people to do up our layout&stuff but its kinda hard since its a blog for all genres so we dont want anything trashy neither do we want anything gay looking.Any ideas?(: & yeap we will update it every week(:

People give some love to Truth Be Known, leave them comments in the post!(:

Hmm... blogskin wise, certain colours like Black and Pink is out of the way. Pink, due to the fact the hard rockers would think its gay, and black cause it is more for death, black metal, etc.

A good match I can think of is Orange, and perhaps a light lime green. Its not too gay, yet it has a very warm tone to it. Fits most genres and sub-genres, although it does not really satisfy all

haha hey, kudos to blog..
bet its really going to help promote the local bands..
btw its really quite interesting to read the reviews of the bands on the blog sia..

haha eh, maybe u could add us in there soon..
maybe when we get more originals done :)

Looks like we are screwed...

We have been using BRIGHT PINK for the past 5 years.

Amazingly, we still managed to interview 4 metal bands, 3 hardcore acts and The Arcade Fire before they became really huge.

Honestly, design wise it is perfectly okay to use any colour your please, provided the elements contained within blend in aesthetically and makes sense.

Using pink doesn't mean it is gay (anyway, purple is more usually associated with homosexuality) and using black doesn't have to mean it is definitely black or death metal bands that are just going to be featured.

A lot of it has to do with the various visual elements in the background design that determines the mood that has been decided, and the wonderful thing is that you don't have to stick to a one single design forever. It can be changed periodically to keep it fresh and maintain constant rejuvenation.

After all, music trends change all the time according to people's tastes and whatever is made popular at a particular time. The trick is to maintain elements that, with one look, everybody knows this is a blog that has something to do with music. It doesn't have to say 'local music' because you've already advertised and spread the word that this is a blog about local music. You don't have to stress the point, which I think will be quite redundant, because the pictures and write-ups obviously show that local bands are being featured.

Right now, it looks very bland and empty (visually) and non-attractive and it doesn't help that this generation is weaned on fantastic aesthetics, just like in the days of Multiply and MySpace when designers and developers contribute and distribute their skin designs freely on these networking sites.

I am sure Blogspot users have a similar community and a place where you can use their HTML and CSS freely. Wait.. wait.. I found one -

http://www.blogskins.com/

So, there you go. While you wait to build up your so-called branding, do use the skins and maybe you see one that you really like and maybe can get your designer to just tweak it further and make it your own.

:D

On a side note, personally I think the writing can do with a little bit more wit, or thought-provoking elements to it.

I don't think people will come back and repeatedly visit the blog if it's just a review and interview session everytime. It helps to be a little bit controversial rather than straight bland sweetness, so that people can be entertained while keeping up with the local scene at the same time.

Though you may baulk at this example but just take a look at the infamous Xiaxue. She can talk about anything and people wouldn't care, normally, but her controversial connotations and her bitchy online persona keeps people coming back, subsequently earning her a decent income because she has thousands of both fans and detractors visit her site every single day, stumbling on her ads while supporting or fuming at her and clicking them ads.

In other words, you have to have that special element or X-factor to get people interested and keep coming back, if you want people to be interested in local music. To know that the scene is well and alive. Not just made up of wannabes and daydreamers.

What I can think of now, is to insert everynow and then the latest news, happenings and events that has something to do with local music. I know, there are lots of them everytime but you can choose the ones that are the most interesting eg. Swee Lee Sale or something. Have a review on the whole sale process and your experience and people here will appreciate it if they get to read about it and find out what the whole thing is all about, and decide whether they want to spend the time going down and buy the stuff they desire, or decide that it'd be a waste of time.

Hmm, hahah, well i do love pink, nothing wrong with it at all.
I did post up a poll in the blog for people to vote for which color suits the blog best since its for mixed genres. As for the blogskin, we currently have a designer working on it & it should take a while.Yeap, we'll leave the design&layout to the designer.

Anyway, do give us some time for the writing & what we write about, we've only done 2 entries so far and we are branching out to other things related to the local scene like gigs, studios, etc.Trust me, its wont be merely interviews & reviews. If you dont like the writing, theres gonna be podcasts too(:

We are not a corporate entity, We're not doing this blog for a living unlike Xiaxue who does it for a living, thus she needs her haters/fans to click on her ads & raise her unique visits per day so as to get more money & sponsors. We are just doing our part to promote our local scene & it is merely a blog as much as it'll be great to be near Xiaxue's standard because the bands will be gaining the exposure, we are just behind the scenes.

Anyway, WE ARE taking every suggestion into consideration so do email us
instead, we'd like to keep them under a folder(:
