New drummer in the flat below mine....

Interestingly the family living at the flat below mine decided to get a drumset. When I heard the familiar sounds of toms i was quite pleased to hear another drummer in the block. HOWEVER....the guy who's playing just seems quite contented on hitting the drums aimlessly and as loudly as possible and its starting to become murder on my ears. I learnt the drums by air drumming, pad work and studio work and I never realised how irritating drums can be....especially when played by a moRON.

Should I volunteer to give him lessons? LOL....or issit a drummer's curse to be tortured by the instrument he loves so much....sobzzz

Same thing happened to me about.. 2-3 years ago when i still lived in a HDB.

And yea thought about offering lessons as well but i didnt know where exactly all that sound came from. U should try offering to teach! plus u practically get a drumset urself, if u become his best friend. haha

Came up with an interesting solution that sort of worked...pissed off with the racket, I got on my set and decided to practice slightly louder than normal.

When I stopped....i heard nothing from downstairs...LOL. Next time i must trade drum solos with the fella downstairs...haha

Cheesegrater, I sure as hell hope it wasnt u. haha. St 51, i lived at blk 548.
Well e fact that im not sure where st 21 is means that it shouldnt have been u.:D phew

Err... I'm not sure how many people have kits in the neighbourhood, but it was probably me. I live a block away from where you used to. I'm don't know what exactly i was doing a few years ago, and i probably wasn't very good, but yeah i was just TRYING and going about my impression of PRACTICE.

Our world is small, Singapore is smaller and the community here is smaller still so yeah, I don't appreciate being called an ASSHOLE. I'm not sure if you'd say the same if you knew who you were referring to and not just swearing anonymously into the sky so nevermind, I'm just taking it that i solved a little mystery for you today.

This is probably just a bitching thread that doesn't really amount to much, but honestly as drummers/musicians yourselves do you really expect good shit from anyone starting out? Drums are noisy. Because for whatever reason financial or otherwise you didn't own a kit when you were starting out, but now you do, and you happen to be marginally better, please don't tell me it was all out of courtesy. We all know regular access to a kit for practice is important and yes, definitely a lot of fun for anyone into it.

I don't mean to impose on anyone, but the fact is that everybody is imposing on everybody, courtesy is practicing tolerance, why not even more so to fellow musicians?

Hey man, chill, I'm sure all neighbours bitch about drummers in flats. But being criticised by a fellow drummer really isn't that nice. It's better to have another drummer friend who can help you along, isn't it?

Jowell, I'm sure you're not as bad as he mentioned, it's more like a figure of speech to make it sound worse than it seems. He might have exaggerated a little. And you're right, everyone sounded bad when they started drumming. I used to play the same groove bass drum on 1 and 2, snare on 3 and 4, hi hat constant at quavers and I told myself I'm a drummer already. But at that point of time, my timing was off, I know nuts about rudiments and I don't know how to read. hehe.

Anyway, what tim said was very subjective, perhaps he's a very good drummer already, thus, he sees no interest in your drumming. Whatever it is, don't let this demoralize you alright. Keep drumming! Inspired to drum, drumming to inspire!

PS: I heard there's another drummer at block 657 Yishun st 61. I live at 645. Are you in soft? Or are there any more drummers living near me? I know pacifusion is one of them. haha. Let's have a Yishun/Khatib drummers gathering at coffeeshop if possible!

Wah so many drummers in Pasir Ris. I'm from pasir ris too! Haha should have a small soft gathering over at s11 or sumting...and yes i have drums, but i live near elias mall..

What caijunlong u live in yishuN!? hahah never say....come over my place 1 day la dude....pacifusion too! Exchange ideas and what not! Marc just came my place today...

Seems like Pasir Ris is a drummer's estate. I'm one of them too...lol Definitely should meet up, share our experience about thy neighbours. Thanks god i have nice neighbours who have yet to complain...

reading the contents of this thread kinda makes me feel that i should not be getting my own kit anymore.

note : i can only play properly when i hear other instruments playing in tandem with me. drum solo without bass? i cant pull that off, or rather, i can, but real weakly haha... which will result in...... what the thread starter has said... random beats which make no sense... XP

Frummer you live in Yishun too? haha. Add me on msn!

jenocide, having your own drumsets as early as possible will only help you. Without any companion instrument, playing on the drums will always be what you called "random beat". Because it's not adding attributes to anything except silence.
