NEW cymbals VS 2nd/3rd.etc. hand cymbals

Hello everyone

I would like to know what are some of the differences between new cymbals and used ones, apart from the obvious price difference, wear & tear(i've never really seen a cymbal torn, but oh well.), or maybe some cracks.
other than that, are there and sound differences? for example, my guitarist friend once told me that after a guitar has been played for awhile, the guitar tone will "come out". isit true for cymbals and drums in general also?

would really help me decide on what cymbals to get. thanks!

If the cymbal is well taken care of, there is not much difference in the resale value. The tone of the cymbal will slightly change due to polishing and aging. As long as a cymbal is well maintained, the value is appreciated along with the sound. It is sad that many high end cymbals are sold at deflated value due to the urgent need of money.

cymbals are like wine, the taste/sound are subjective and some age better than others.

fu man... the deflated value allows drum masters to buy usable pieces of cymbals with watever left of the wallet.. cos the deeper you go, the broker you become.... until finally you have no money left..

Yes, but we wouldn't be able to perceive that difference unless we had a control piece - another cymbal of the exact same model that was put aside untouched. Patina, dirt, metal fatigue, etc. Whether that difference is positive or negative depends on the listener's ear.

Spotted this poor thing on ebay... :(

Yup... I was tempted many times to buy those deflated priced cymbals but have to let those tight in budget to have them first...

poor zildjian.. hope it will get reborn again!

anyways our local market ain't really that big so getting gems here in soft are pretty much rare but they do happen once in a blue moon - because i've been one of the lucky few to get my hands on..

so thanks fuman for thinking of us "kuching kurap" drummers! hahaha

ps: kuching kurap means stray cats.. ahhaha
