NEW BANDS ATTN! : SESSIONS! APPLICATIONS

hey how to get EXPOSURE when someone is the last band and everyone's gone away? a friend of a friend's band went thru that thing. they like freaking came at 4 to support others but others just went after their set, this must change liao~

so becuz of dis matter, u blame the organiser ar?
there's a lot of factors to y ppl wun come to the gig. maybe the fren's fren's band din do much band publicity? dats one factor. even the clubbing scne find it hrd to pack in ppl. singaporeans are reaslly fickle n hard to please it seems!!

watever it is, pls arr young man, before you post aniting think, dun just yak for the sake of free speech. put urself in their shoes n try to brainstorm for fun how to attract crowds. then u will know how difficult it is to organise gigs. read more, see more, absorb more, talk less!

ps: im just angry at the way u tnk dats all, sorry if dis is a harsh post.

yea man..if you really have to blame people blame the people who left man. dont blame the organisers. ary gave your friends friend a chance to perform. how could that be negative?. and just for the record, sessions was a great gig..

lets give props to Ary. and up sweepshredpick.

erpps...
so aniwoo, playing to a small crowd doesnt matter, dun mind you being the last band..as long as you get your share of airtime even to a small crowd, still have to be positive and get the energy moving.. at least it portray u and your band in a positive manner... u cant be playing to a large crowd at all times especially when u've just started rite.. and cmon, ary IS doing something to raise the local scene, and yet people like u are unappreciative of his effort... but well, good work ary.. lets this be a lesson for us , and also think of suggestions to improve this in near future if the need arises?

being the last band and able to perform is already good enough..what if u're the last band and u're being told that u're not able to play since it's already late...?

thanx for the feedback =)

we do learn from mistakes so yeah..
we do hope we can churn out better sessions in future.. =)

cheers!

hey, i'm ron, the chinese guy in blue who spoke to you (either one) earlier on @ IJ. this's my first attendance to one of your "sessions" gigs and honestly it left a pretty bad impression. seriously get sponsors of some sort and get a better location. the idea of bands registration/almost-compulsory sales of 10 tickets (which makes it $50) is kinda inflexible. you might as well sell it at the door yourself and get the band to pay a reasonable fee to play. So many ppl cramped in a small room (the video footage of Homicidal Rage will be up soon) and terrible ventilation and bad lighting isn't really that good idea. Although yes, cheers for trying to organise gigs etc, but if your aim is to really help expose bands and organise gigs more EFFICIENTLY, get sponsors and do it somewhere more proper/bigger y'know. cos this gig is more like a "jamming studio session that allows alot of ppl into the jamming room". I sure do hope you got bigger plans than just that.this's as constructive as I can get.

k la , no offence meant at all, if you guys carry on with this badly managed setup, the only big picture I see from my point of view is that, you guys will be earning abit of side pocket money and the gigs are of minimum exposure for the bands.not really cost efficient. better than nothing, but why would you wanna be compared to nothing? I do hope any profits earned are invested or put aside to get better locations, that'll be understandable cos we all gotta start somewhere.(although if I were you I'd work a normal job and save up and bomb a proper gig.) in reference with some kid I knew who used gig organised profits for his own personal investments.. like a fancy guitar etc .. ah well he got kicked out anyway.

p.s. : I only filmed homicidal rage cos after that you guys turned off the ceiling lights and put light sticks and I didn't want to be moshed into anymore.. small room no place to "take cover", so I left. Being hungry, tired and horny could have easily made me "homicidal and raged" heheh

20¢ worth.

"Homicidal and raged" wahahaha power ah ron! thanks for coming down and filming our set! we really appreciate it! and not forgetting all those who stayed for Homicidal Rage set!! thanks alot guys~ peace!

^
you guys really rock! metalcore \m/.

anyway, about being the last band to perform, for me its no matter, so what if its like 6 people or less? you still can enjoy yourself wat. last band - extra songs to play. haha.

yeah. my band was the last one to perform in sessions 4. it was fun though seeing other bands before us and giving us ideas to improve as a band and as a musician.

i didnt have a chance to thank the organisers and the people that stayed and watch us [asm/hopekill]. thanks ary. terima kaseh. sie sie. vannakam. haha.

to sum it all up, kutFgw ary and fellas. :D :D

whoa whoa.

i didnt expect it to blow this big.
seriously seh.

but dont worry.
we do have bigger upcoming plans.

taking sessions! to another level =)

just keep an eye out for us ayte =)

cheers!

hey, i'm ron

Point taken bro.. We do not earn much from Sessions and whatever we earned, we do set aside a sum to create bigger events, for example, Skawerkz @ Kampong Glem CC. As for sponsors, we are in the process of registering our company in order to make it easier for us to get sponsors unless there is another way which we can get sponsors without going thru the formal process. As for getting a normal job, save up and bomb a proper gig, its quite hard for us to do so as Ary is currently serving his National Service and I'm still schooling. Thank you for the feedback bro. We still new to this so any suggestions are greatly welcomed. Cheers!

they are making use of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they are using us to sell tickets!!!!!!!!!!!!!our band had to pay $50 to play.reason they give is that they don't want bands to back out last minute.what!!!!!!!!!if bands didn't sell the 10 tix,no money given back.what!!!!!!!!!!!!they are screwing you!!!!!!!!!

To the organizers.

Keep your heads up. No matter what you do, how you do it, you simply can't please everyone.

Many out there think they're good enough to be stars but many can't see that they need to start somewhere. to the bands who played and enjoyed yourselves, you guys will probably last much longer than those who didn't.

Good job guys!

To those so quick to flame. I'd like to see you organize a WEEKLY gig with almost ZERO money, attend school or national service and balance a life.

cheers!

we all have to start somewhere.

oh they're on to their 7th session already...

an average of 8 to 9 bands a session?

that's more than 50 bands given the opportunity to play.

Kudos.

hey seling tix is okie wat, they nvr ask for the tix money to be return to dem wat, its all for u to kip..i agree wit carlos, u cant mke everyone happy, also tis gig is somesort of a stepping stone for u to move 4ward..w/o tis kinda tings, u wont fyl any hardship in moving 4ward..u only pay 50 bux n yet u r up thr performing infront of ppl, dun u tink tt is cool? enuf said, gd job ary.. kip up the good work, tkx to organisers lyk u, we r given a chance to perform.

-cheers

If i may, let me clarify things abit.

Firstly, sessions is a platform for new bands , coupled with more experienced bands, to showcase their talents.

THE $50 DEPOSIT
were a DIY Street team with limited funding.
Like all other DIY ST's all the cash comes out from our own pockets.

1 sessions! ticket costs 5 bucks by the way.
It has been stated clearly when we contacted the bands , that they have to sell a minimum of ten tickets and we give them a choice , no strings attached , on deciding whether the want to take part in this or not.
This is so that :

1) Bands would not play to an empty crowd and throw the blame at us.
2) Bands would not pull out at the very last minute.
3) We can cover the cost of bringing you the gig itself.

This $50 deposit is actually a forwarded payment of the ten tickets that the bands are required to sell. Of course, when they sell the ten tickets , they get back their cash. We have also been giving incentives, for example, if the band manages to sell more then ten tickets, we will give you a percentage of the tix sales.

(btw, 5BuckShort, please contact me regarding ur incentive. You have not collected it. Just a reminder. ary @ 96648566)

We have actually talked about the need for this whole deposit thing with several veteran DIY ST's and other ppl, but in the end logic won. We started out sessions not enforcing the deposit rule, and the bands took for granted that there will be ppl coming. (mind you we did publicise the event.) In the end, we lost a substantial amount of money and we had to fork out more (it goes into the fucking hundreds mind you.) cash for the rental of the place and such. If this kindof thing continues, we might as well give our cash to charity yes?

f bands didn't sell the 10 tix,no money given back.what!!!!!!!!!!!

If we give you back the cash, im very sure that more bands would follow suit and not sell tix and demand money back from us. Then how would we want to cover cost?

WHERE THE MONEY GOES TO
Honestly, the amount of money we obtain from doing each gig isnt large. Each time we do a gig, the profit is just enough to cover rental, equipment damage cost, and the deposit for venue needed for the next gig. Hell, sometimes all we can afford to splurge on after a long day there is just cab fare home.

THE WHOLE PURPOSE
Yes, i do agree we need sponsors. We arent sitting back shaking our legs and letting you guys fork out all the cash. We're constantly looking out for potential ways to bring sessions to another level. Its not as easy as it looks, and im sure the rest of the DIY ST community would agree with me on this.
We're organizing this weekly event to let the rising local talents get a feel of what its like on stage and at the same time, exposing themselves and their talents to the scene here. You can call this a lame effort, but to me, its me and my team's own way of giving opportunities. We were a band, and still are, and we do put ourselves in ur shoes. We're not selfish bastards who would want to take away your hard earned money.

::

So all in all, Mr Confused, i sure hope this enlightens you abit. Put yourself in our shoes. Would you do the same thing?

they are screwing you!!!!!!!!!

Feel free to call us up (96648566) and we'll sit down for a chat, we're one big community of music lovers here, and the thought of taking advantage of the bands never crossed our minds, i assure you.

::

In the back of my mind, i have this constant thought. Why is it when mainstream organizers enforce the same rule you guys dont bat an eyelid and pay up, but when DIY ST's do it, theres a big hooha.
but thats besides the point.

::

Well, all in all, we would like to say a big thank you to all the bands and people that supported us. Haider from Stygian and his whole crew, Ego Stereo, Faizal, Man from Opx and his whole crew, Carlos, Tharenii, liz, You guys rock. To the core dudes.
and to those flamers out there.
Give us a break.
okay?

cheers! =)
