New amp or guitar 1st.

Okay, i have been playing for around 1yr plus already. My 1st and only electric guitar was LTD F-10 with an ESP 10w training amp. I know they are cheap, just shut up. =x
Okay, as we know, once we get better, we often need better gears. But currently i'm still a student and live only on pocket money alone. Therefore i do not have much money to buy both a new guitar and amp together.

What i have in mind is a Epiphone/Burny Les paul standard and a roland cube 20x/vox vt30.

For both of them, i might purchase them from 2nd hand dealers (most probably the cube).

So my question is should i get the amp 1st since i still have a guitar OR should i get the les paul 1st since i still have the 10w amp?

I really love to have a cherry sunburst les paul but i want it to sing gracefully too. Any suggestion?

Oh, one more question, which is better? cube 20x or 30x in terms of value for money?

Edited: I just came across vox vt30, the feedback was not bad. So which is better? =/

Thanks people!

ur current guitar will sound crappy through the 10w amp.

get a new, better guitar, it will still sound crappy because of the 10w amp.

so, obviously get a new amp..

roland cube is a good choice. if u do get either a 20x or 30x, then u'll realise how much a difference it makes to ur tone.

dudelove thanks! For the roland cube, whats the difference between 20x and 30x? jsut that it is 20watts and 30 watts right? If i get 20x, issit possible to jam outside too?

sorry i'm not familiar with the tonal differences regarding the wattage on solid state amps. but it should be obvious that 30w will be louder than 20w. the 30x has a 10" speaker. compared to the 8" on the 20x, the 10" should have more headroom then the 8".

i like the vox vt-30 though. i own the older valvetronix series, the ad30vt. very decent cleans, take pedals well. not bad. are u using pedals? or u're relying on the amp for both ur clean and ur overdrive/distortion?

usually playing in a live situation amps are provided. if u're talking abt playing like in a sch hall that kinda stuff its not going to be loud enough. u need to request ur sch pa crew to mic up ur amps.

i currently do not have any pedal. Was thinking of using the amp tone. So yea. I will do more research on that 2 amp. Thanks!

urm ill say a multi-effects gadget like g2.1u XD
its cheap and u can get a much more better sound from ur guitar and amp...

sorry, i beg to differ.

i can have the most expensive effects, amp simulator, a 10k gibson les paul and i'll still sound like nonsense if i plug it into a 10w amp.

on the other hand, i can have a 100w marshall plexi, and a cheapskate sx guitar. chances are i'll sound much better than the previous setup i mentioned above.

Agreed with ^^^^.

People have to start to realize that the amp is as important as the guitar in terms of tone and sound. Pedals shape that sound.

But everything is still in your heart and in your fingers.

thanks everyone for the helps. I had decided to go for roland cube 20x first and slowly save for the les paul.Pedal wise, hopefully i strike lottery or something. haha.

Btw hat to check for when buying 2nd hand amp and guitar?

Definately Amps

Many people get the mistake of choosing guitar over amps(Upgrade) but its wrong, You may have the best guitar in the world but when you play through a very bleah amp you can expected bleah quality.

My friend made the mistake of buying a new Epi SG(G-400) and is still stuck with the 10 watt SX amp...

The electric guitar gives you the Oomph to your gears but it is the amps which are giving out the sound.

this is wat i thino

You may prefer a epiphone but i think wif that kinna money it's better of gettin a yamaha pacifica or a yamaha in that price range(some also come wif flame maple top and binding). and then wen u start gettin serious than consider a Gibz.
and about the amp may i suggest the roland micro cube. can run on batterys and its goin for a price of a 15x. everythins e same except for the equaliser and suppresor thing. all effects are the same and sounds jus as gd as a 20x. seriously think about it as it can also be used for smqll performances or jammin at a frens house as it comes wif a small strap for its light weight body to carry it ard. i will vouch for this product as im a proud owner off 1. and mite as well get a new one during the swee lee sale.

Oh, i prefer the cube 30x though, i don't know why. Just like it. thank you for the suggestion! Might test both of them out and compare. Guys, is replacing a normal plastic nut cheap and fast? I don't need a very good one, just for my old guitar.

AMP first (though i'm getting a new guitar first =_=''')

O and U mkight want to look at LINE 6's Spider AMp and VOX VT amps as well.
