Need some help with a sound

That was one bad recording with lots of ambient reverb. If you are referring to the synth sound, it sounds like a sawtooth-based synth. You are right - it's a common sound you get in most keyboards.

Alright thanks. How am I able to achieve that stutter kinda synth sound then? I tried googling up but to no avail. Most of the searches seems to be sawtooth lead sounds.

For example, roughly which VSTIs and effects would I need to get started on this sound? Thanks.

I cannot hear it very clearly. I'm trying to understand what you meant by "stutter". It may be one of the 2 ways: the way it was played (the stuttering is not the sound itself but the playing), or apply an arpeggiator to the sound. If we can get a clearer track, we can figure it out better. It sounded more like how it was played because if it was an arpeggiator, the effect will persist throughout (which is not the case towards the end). Can't be sure.

The key is to first get the sound. Then achieve the effect by playing it right, or apply arpeggiator. Try a search in KVR audio (http://www.kvraudio.com/) for the saw sound. Do you already have any VSTi? You may already have the sound. For example, I'm pretty sure Abysnth can do that.

Yes I do. I've been mainly using Massive, Abysnth and z3ta+.

Okay I think I've somehow gotten it. I applied an appregiator to z3ta+ and I'm getting closer to it. Just need more tweaking on the sound and I should be there. Thanks for the help, appreciate it.

Nope. The link I posted was a remix of the original song. Tried finding a better quality of it but seems like there's only 1 link for that :/

If you are using z3ta+, then you may want to upgrade to z3ta 2. Lots of new upgrade. I'm sure you'll like it. I don't use z3ta although I have Sonar X1PE (expanded). Never quite need those type of sounds. Absynth is sufficient.

I think for sound designing. Start with 3 saw with any synth. Pitch one higher by a few percent(10%max), other one lower by a few percent(10%). You will get a nice saw.

Like others mentioned, the recording is pretty bad. My guess is Nexus. Not a true synthesizer but it sounds like it has the qualities of the sound you are looking for. And it's everyone's shortcut tool these days.

If you really want to use Massive to achieve that sound, use the step sequencer to gate the sound. And layer 2 octave saws. Add distortion, dimension expander, verb and other things. Modulate filters, envelopes etc. Anyway, lots of work.
