Need some advices here..

If I were a drummer, I d go for Traps elctronic drumset. The one with acoustic skin & hoops. Ud get the same feel of an acoustic without having to disturb the neighbours. ( unless U want to)..

but Traps not easy to source for in S'pore right? have researched Arbiter Flats before too, even 2ndhand would cost in excess of 1k after shipping.

what??so expensive?ohmygod.and i'm really afraid that if i buy a drumkit and i practice at home,i would receive complains from my neighbours as they just moved in..i have no problems with my old neighbours with playing my clarinet and electric guitar but 1 has moved out..ut i have 1 small advantage.my room is beside the stairs :p and i live in the 14th story.is there anyway of cheap sound proofing?

The A400 is RM1730, that is around SGD750.
I dunno Traps dealer in Singapore, but usually their prices are a lot cheaper than
Malaysia. Anybody knows??

The most they can do is complain. As long as you don't jam at midnight. think evening latest is till 8, after that police can knock your door, if not, u're good to go.

kaiwenny... don't listen to hear-say, listen with your ears and come to your own conclusion. You are free to come over to my place in the west to listen for yourself.

Won't know yet. Sweelee will start advertising closer to the sale. It'll probably be some time in december.

Is anyone a MFO member?i heard that you can bring a friend in if you're an MFO member.heh heh i was thinking of signing up for MFO but it costs too much and i don't really go everyday haha.and i went to drum's resources today.saving up for Ahead sticks.maybe getting joey jordison's heh heh

kaiwenny trust me on this, you DO NOT need a drum set at home to qualify as a drummer. In fact, I have just sold my own drum kit because it is extremely underused. I drummed for 4 years, bought a kit and after one year im selling it. And my level from when i bought the kit and right now is about the same, no significant increase. so seriously, if ur starting out, dont buy one yet.

I see ur in sec2, do what i did. Go use ur sch band's drum kit. haha, seriously man.

This really depends lah. If you don't have easy access to a drumset outside, and you really use your home set a lot, then having a drumset at home will really make you improve a lot. If I didn't have my drumset, I probably wouldn't be able to practice so often since for quite long my school band didn't have drumset and studios were expensive. Even now that my school has drumset, it's not like I can just go there and use whenever I feel like it.

Of course, if you buy a set, and you don't use it much, then there's also no real point to buying it.

I'm still thinking of getting a drumset or not due to space constraint.but i will try to haha.thanks guys for your replies ;D

I'm assuming you don't have space or volume constraints.

That aside, I say get the acoustic set. For your budget, I'd suggest you go for the Peace Demolition. DO NOT go for brands like Carlos and such, seriously, for the reasons already mentioned above.

Why the acoustic set, and not an electronic set?

Firstly, assuming you have neither space nor volume constraints, it'd be good for your development; technically and musically.

I recently had my first lesson with Alvin at Music Lab, and he mentioned a whole lot of very beneficial stuff about practising on an actual acoustic kit. He mentioned that practising your strokes (rudiments) on a snare is way better as compared to playing on, say, a practice pad. Why? It's so much easier to hear your mistakes and whatnots! And once you've identified your mistakes, you can go about rectifying them and thus, you'll improve.

Besides, practising on an acoustic kit, you can work on your dynamics, your movement around the kit, grooves and so on. Not that you can't do it on an electronic/practice-pad kit, but I play on an e-kit quite a bit and I'm not particularly satisfied with it so I always look forward to playing my acoustic kit at home. Such alternatives just don't cut it for me. With the acoustic kit and cymbals, you have way more avenues than when practising on a e-kit.

IMHO, $0.02.

[EDITED] Just read the above post, my apologies. Seems like you've got space constraints after all. I still maintain that you should get an acoustic kit.

BUT

Are you planning to do drumming long term? Or is it just a phase you're going through? Sorry if I'm being harsh, but we were all in Sec 2 once a upon time so we know how it is.
