Hey guys, i have a gibson sg special (humbucker) that i am gonna retrofit with GFS mean 90s (p90s), just need help with the kind of pots that is good for them. Should it be 250K or 500K pots? And does Orange Drops make any difference together with the recommended pots? Your kind help will be deeply appreciated, thanx!

it's still single coil- 250K version will do fine (my Edwards is equipped with 250K type, featuring a pair of Duncan P-90s...).

thusfar, i only hear marked results (tone-wise) from the orange drops in humbucking guitars...

Hmmm thanx for the info guys, but i have search through other guitar forums and most of them reccomend 500k pots cause they say it is always good to have extra top end, and is still controllable by using the tone pots if too bright......Btw i already fixed my Mean 90s with 250k pots to try out....but somehow find the tone alittle dark/muffled for my liking although i like the fatness and warmness, so i guess changing to 500k will help open up the sound better???

everything they said is correct :P

I did the same mod as you.. Gibson SG Special with Mean 90...

but i use the original Gibson pots which is 300k on volume, and 500k on tone... i email Gibson and asked them regarding the stock pots values... since I also play jazz on it, with the vol turn down a little it sounded slightly darker which is perfect for me (personal preferance)...

And i agree with you that it sounded dark... largely due to the mahangony make up of the guitar...

currently i'm using dimarzio paf joe and evo II with 500k pots for both vol and tone with orange drop...

You may want to try experimenting to put a 500k pot for neck and 250k for bridge.... no fix rule =)

both pots will work, but a log pot will give a more gradual ramp up in volume compared to a linear one. More controllable. A linear one would be more abrupt.

I see thanx alot seekz! Does gotoh have log pots as well, or i have to get from like All Parts, CTS, Switch Craft etc.......?
