well im a newbie with soldering and doesnt know how to read schematic..but i wanna install it myself.

im trying to install a duncan distortion neck pickup to a 5 way switch.

i solder the red and white wire to the first hole? (the switch part) and the black to the 3rd last hole. the green and bare i solder to the volume pot..

is this correct? i cant get sound out of the pickup..please help me~~ @.@

What 5 way switch is it?

Have you referred to the SD wiring diagrams on the SD website?

Btw, like what KC of GC (Sounds cool eh? ;)) told me... DIY is not necessarily a cost cutting measure... and you'll prob ending making lots of mistakes plus damaging your parts... also the finer points of soldering come abt with practice... lots. :)

Go to Ibanez.com head to the USA site, under support then wiring

Get the diagram there.

The Ibanez 5-way switch is unique and different form whats on the SD website.

However, you will have to figure out the colour coding.... check with Pooo, he has DIY it before.

Spider i think wat u did was right but i din understand why no output..

u just need to solder the duncan black wire to where the old pu red wire was Just a suggesstion, desolder the white and red , tie them together
see it there is output.. if that doesnt work switch the black wire to where u last solder the red and black..

for duncan pu...the black wire is hot while dimarzio its red..
green and bare for both normally goes to ground(pots)

gd luck..

the pickup has sound now..but i think theres something wrong with it..it seems only one side of the pickup is picking up the sound @.@ can anyone help me??

Spider, u can't opt out the possibility of the pickup being damaged from factory also. i personally have encountered it, in which (similiarly) one coil of the humbucker is not working.

yo man, ya soldered the same way i msged u? black to one, white and red to the other?

the wiring should be similiar to the Dimarzio pup on ur bridge in terms of wires soldered. (but slightly different in terms of colors)

try disconnecting the white and red wires and masking tape it to see if it changes to a full humbucking that way.

i still can't figure out which goes where for ibanez pickup selectors... paiseh... so it's a bit of a hit and run. (actually I don't understand why the white-red wires should be soldered but it's there on the Ibanez JEMs with Dimarzios so I followed that when I msged u about the wiring).

i tried what you teach me..but only 1 side of the humbucker is working ne @.@ jia lat..i will try the masking tape way first..if it still cant work out..maybe i have to bring down to davis le..but will they recognise their product anot a? coz they didnt issue me any receipt heh @,@

bro is the pickup out of phase?
if it is just switch the connection (black to the red/white)lug

make sure that the contact of the solder is good..even the green and bare wire. You dont want cold solder joint...

for a Duncan, generally green and red are the south polarity and
black and white are the north polarity..to keep the current flow u need to solder
the black to the hot lug and green/bare to grd..the red white are use for splitting, coiltap etc... or something that you wanna custom...

lastly pls make sure u tape or insulate the red/white if u dun wanna solder to the lug..else the circuit might break...

another thing that might happen is that the 5 way switch may have been damaged..is position 4 working?

I got this problem before... 1 coil working only and everythign else seemed to be soldered well.

First thing to check, how's your soldered connections? Clean? Did you use flux to clean the to be soldered points?

Do a google for flux. :) It cleans the solder.

And no, you don't have to tape it together before you solder it.

If you find yourself damaging the wire, esp the plastic covering, please.. bring it to a tech...

i twist and join the red/white wire together before soldering..thats ok right? hmm..can it be the bare and green wire prob?
