Need help in choosing home practice amp

Thanks guys for all your votes and recommendations. I decided that I do not need any effects or modelling on the amp, and given that so many actually would want to "ditch" the marshall MG15CDR, I eventually got the Vox Pathfinder 15R at sale price from City Music.

Thanks guys for all your help again! :D

Hey how about Behringer GM108? HArmony Central reviews are very interesting but feedback form people here would help me more. How does is fare with more branded amps? Anyone knows? Coz Luthermusic has a very tempting price for this amp.

Hi Wasp, I tried the Behringer GM108 side by side with the Marshall MG15CDR at Luthermusic the other day. Its not as full and good sounding as the Marshall, which cost twice as much of course. You got to try it and see if you like it, not just consider the price. However, if you are budget constrained, then no choice lah...

Anyway, Raymond at Luthermusic told me that next year they do not want to sell electric guitar anymore, and only want to concentrate on acoustics. So they are clearing some stuff right now. Raymond offered to sell me the Marshall display set at S$150 (Its a "Made in Korea" set). Go down and test both sets. Perhaps they may sell u the behringer display at a much lower price.

hey sry for jacking ur thread but i need some amp help too. any reccomendations? im currently using a peavey backstage amp, 26 watts or whatever ( sry i think thats the name im not exactly sure of the accurate thingy or ya. )

i know absolutely nothing about amps and such. i just know then i am disastisfied with the sound coming from my amp. any recomendations? my budgets ard 300 maybe? alittle mroe or less. i can save up = )

Does the DA 5 takes on pedal well?

Lets say i might add a pedal like DD-3 and maybe a bad monkey before the input, will there be any undesired effect?

and another thing is i might mix the pedals with the onboard effect, say, a reverb...

the DA5 has a clean setting for you to plug in whatever pedal you wish to use, do not expect stellar performance- this is a practice amp. there's a DA5 review in the database for your reference.

if you are pedal reliant, Smarvo units are good to own.

Yo bro sub, i m not really pedal reliant, just like to mix and match with watever is onboard. I find this amp interesting, might bring along 1 or 2 pedals for testing purposes tomorrow.

My plan would be to bring a booster pedal and a delay and use the on board reverb and the amp model with nice distortion on the amp.
Any nice setting to recomend for my type of setting?

i use pedals with my da5, rarely do i use the onboard crunch or hi gained channels, and it took me quite a while to figure out the best way to match the DA5 with my pedals. Try the blues #2 channel, with gain at around 30-40%.

marshall crunch channel at low gain, is another nice clean channel for your pedals.

hey peeps.. just tried the amp today, and bought it on the spot, i must say this is really an impressive practice amp. I cant really differentiate it with the ;arger valvetronix, sounds very simmilar to me.

Good buy for such a small versatile beast. Sounds freaking loud as well for bedroom practice. I must say the tone is very impressive for the amp. With the reverb on, the amp is a lil' tone beast, enjoys it alot... Takes my pedals well also.

Last but not least.....

VOX IS FOR THE BLUESSSS~!!!!

It depends on how u wanna use them, i m in tht position before that,

IMHO
Both of the amps have good cleans, but it is a matter of how u gonna use them. If the amp is solely for room practice and not for jamming or gigging etc, u can try the DA-5.

I have pedals, and could do well with the pathfinder, but i m kinda lazy when it comes to plugging and keeping the pedals. It is a chore since my maid just dump everything aside when cleaning up the floor, gets kinda messy with all those wires tangle up.

So my aim was a plug and play amp for practice use while able to add in flavours with pedals when in the mood. The DA-5 have good tones that is worth testing, something simmilar to the valvetronix, and can takes up pedal well. I own the valvetronix (AD 30-vt) before, got disatisfied with the weight and size and couldnt match well with pedals albeit the good tones.
the size is also a plus point for the DA-5, good tones despite the size. Got amazed with it after testing it for hours, so far so good. Maybe someone else who use the amp longer can show the dark side of the amp to u.. ::LOL::

The pathfinder is a flexible beast that can be used for gigging purposes. Its versatility is a plus point for giggers. Make it bigger by plugging a 12" external speakers, go for the boost button (or for solos) and a distortion pedal for stronger rock tones, reverb (very important to have) and tremolo function saves u from having more pedals.

Both amps have their own selling point, so decided ur aim for the amp.
