and yes i was thinkin of xs20 if i can find some in singapore - do u know where i can get one. swee lee only holds the performance set and i don't think a crash by itself is available.

I know wat u mean. Go inside Swee Lee but cannot see..

Cannot see doesn't mean don't have right? Sometimes they never display the models that U want.

I recommend Sims Drive than Bras Basah. They have more Sabian in stocks and more variety for U to choose..

For a few dollars more, get urself an 16" AA Rock Crash or 16"AAX Stage Crash. The quality of sound is damn huge between these 2 monsters and the Xs20.

Thats my opinion only eh..

sigh. since when u can buy paiste set at 600? signiture series!? DREAM ON!! check your stuffs before u give advice to people.

Hello there Mr. Dickyboon.. Dickhead or watever u are?

I'm sure u r very knowledgable in drumming. If U are, feel free to contribute constructively.

Some of us are not "Pros" or "experience" like U..

U shld understand that some amateur need guidance and advice..

If u think that U have a better advice, please contribute in nicely..

It really shows ur attitude that U like to barge in and comment just becos U think that the threadstarter or the contributer is wrong. That really pisses me off..

So wat if he/she is not knowledgable in cymbals stuffs?

I'm sure U dont want ppl to answer the same way if U were to ask the question right?

The forums are here for us to share not to bombard snide remarks..

Ps: I dedicate my avatar to U mr DickyBoon or watever U are.

Yo Man! Shred5. Killer lah you. But I am not affected at all. I was kinda amused cos if he is buying Paiste cymbals at that kinda price, means like that lah. Good also. I dont lose u get what i mean. HI 5 man!

But yeah I really really like the 16" AAX studio crash. Wanted to grab it at the sale but ...sigh what to do some old man chope it. But I bought the hand hammereds... my my my .. killer man. I like it very much. Zildjians I go for their K hi-hats and dark custom ride.

And Mel, yeah that was one good china, and still is. The decay and the short explosive sound is what I been meaning to get for quite a while, But funny thing is, its not gonna last, hahaah will be getting another one soon. my GAS is very bad.

It seems like this lass is in the bridging stage of drumming some how. It always starts with that one snare, then to the cymbals hahahha..

Well its good that u are humble to learn from others, but if they call themselves the "natural pros", then I think you be better off without them. Dont let them put you down man! thats not the right way.

So yeah , do your rudiments religiously and sooner than u think, you have that bounce and taste in your strokes.

If Guitarists could have their own GAS, why couldn't we (no pun intended)..

If U have watched Dave Lombardo Modern Drummer's 2000 video appearance, he said that the drumming brotherhood is even stronger than the rest of the instrument.. I have the full 200MB clip and its worth every second of it. Watching Dave bashing his drums and cymbals to the very core. Scarry man 8O !!

I always have this drums discusion with my other fellow drummers. Metalheadz drummer, John and Minute drummer, Mal are always discussing abt cymbals and pedals whenever we meet up at Fourtones studio. We could play to each other out stuffs and discuss our mistakes and weaknesses..

As drummers, i think by doing this its more sentimental and more meaningful cos, we need to have the drums.. Imagine bringing ur 6 piece Tama to any Coffee Bean to talk abt it? 8O ..

Thats where the brotherhood and bond grew stronger..

Thats why one day I hope to see a drummers convention in Singapore by us. Not a clinic eh. Just a group gathering.. Hopefully.

And talking abt Sabian Hand-Hammered, they are THE one.. I have a 20" HH Medium Ride that I got for free of charge.. Yup doesnt even cost me a $$$.. The sound is so sweet.. Nice wash and the "ping" is heavensent to sound engineers for recording session.. Saving my $$$ for a Phill Collin's 21" Hand Hammered Raw Bell Dry Ride.. The sound is just so different from other series. Be it AA, AAX, Paragons, HHX..

And yes I admit that I'm a Sabian freak!!!

You got a 20" HH ride for free? Free lunch? in this world? You must have done something really good then.

I am just a cymbal head. Anything sounds good I will grab..or try to...

yay more advice and cool replies

shred 5 - yea. i just e-mailed swee lee about if they have xs20. i might venture in to the aa's and aax but i dunno yet. it's like 50bucks more doesn't sound like much but i'm lookin to buy in singapore due to better prices than nz so it kinda does defeat my purpose yea? and add another 50 and i might as well as hh if i can - so yea. we'll see how the price and my budget stretches hehe. yea quality does matter but the list could go on forever cos there will always be something better eh. but i might save a bit and buy later on. see how much my patience goes :P
but yea thanx heaps for your advice - love hearing from u and everyone else

sound mix pro - haha an old man chope it eh? haha that bites. and bridging stage eh? whatever that means :? but i'm guessing just starting out - which is kinda true. and nah u kinda got it me wrong - my friends don't call them natural pros i call em that, they're the ones with all that talent without too much effot lol. but i'll get that. my friend who is an endorsed guitar player tells me i'm good so whenever i feel sucky at playing i just try to stick to that compliment and keep going lol. which is cool.

but yea i'm just adding a cymbal onto my kit. during the summer holidays i'll probably scab a floor tom and more cymbals from my friend who borrows my stuff every other week or so when he plays for church so it's sweet. i've got quite a few friends who drum so we share stuff lol.

rudiments??!! what's that!! lol well i've heard it and all never learnt them thou. learn of song tabs atm might get into the whole tutorin soon when i get richer lol. lately i've been say rather charitable to some good causes - need to save up again :D

shred 5
- and dude a free HH medium ride!! u should return the favour to me by shouting me a cymbal and next time i'll shout someone else :P lol *hehe - just kidding* i think i'm venturin into the sabian territory seeing i've got zildjian good to see wat the differences are.

HAHAHAHA!! Yup... That 20" Sabian Hand Hammered Ride is selling for $420 at Swee Lee and I got for free :P ..

And just now I got a Paiste 11" Innovation Splash for a mere $75...

8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O

How and why I got it? Lets just say its a gift from a musician to a musician..

To me, personaly, drumming is something dat keeps me going everyday. Even in the MRT when I'm listening to my mp3s, its all abt drumming.

Although its going to look absurd if U were to be air-drumming in the mrt, I have my own form of practice during those long distance travel. Boon Lay to Pasir Ris, CCK to Pasir Ris, etc,etc..

Be picky abt ur cymbals especially. They are the texture of the overall sound. Could U imagine a song without any cymbals in it. Even in any genre of music, if there aren't any drummers playing, there will be drum machine producing those cymbals-like sounds.

Ditz88 Its up to your own personal preference on which cymbal brands U wanna choose for the present and for future investment.

If U start drumming with quality cymbals from those top cymbals manufacturer, its a plus point bcos U will know the difference between the good, the bad and the ugly of cymbal sound management especially in recording and live.

Different cymbals are used for different application. Thats why there's variety of cymbals for U to choose from..

Choose ur cymbals wisely cos they are going to define ur sound..

Cheers and happy drumming!!

Yep, i do agree with shred5 on the cymbals part... went SAE to help a fren do a test recording...the cymbals use that day (hi-hat) were horrid. It sounds like pots and pan...iam not that knowledgeble in different cymbals branding n series, but i do know ...when i played on a certain cymbal n the sound came out sounding horrible...experience tat a few times..i guess it matters a lot, from hi-hat to ride to crash, sometimes the crash cymbal sounds sucky, i seldom have prob with ride cymbal tho..most of the time its hi-hat...

Hmm about the rudiments, iam not sure if iam correct, but i think if iam not wrong there are the "roll rudiments" like single stroke roll like rlrlrlrl ,triple stroke roll, six stroke roll,2nd grp of rudiments like diddle rudiments, parariddle, double pararidle, there is also a 3rd grp rudiments call the flam rudiments. To sum it up, rudiments are strokes you usually play on ure snare ( tho i think u can incoporate it into cymbals work too). A gd excersice will be keep praticing ure rudiments ( try parariddle) on ure drum pad on ur snare...ure notice a difference in your strokes, overall when u play on ure set...for me it works...but u need to have constant practice..at least an hour a day? or more...

And yep, in train air drumming does seems a lil extreme so what i`ll do, i ll usually practice my bass pedaling =p (footwork). 8)

shred 5 - lucky u getting gifts such as that. my friend - u know the endorsed guitar playing gets 40% off anything he wants from the rock shop in nz which is like so cool i wanna be endorsed :D so better get practicing :D

and i usually play my drums in schl in class kinda. using my hats and foot practicin beats that sometimes i can't quite get a hold of. ususally cos my teachers will just be talkin and talkin about the same thing over and over - way boring lol

yea i'm gonna try out a sabian and see how that goes - if i like it better than my zxts i'll sell my zxt's and buy a sabian set - just gonna test and waters and see how things goes. and far as i'm concerned to me and my friends here - zxt's are good compared to like planet z or some unbranded cymbal that my friend has that pretty much sounds like plastic. - now that's
horrid.

lombardo - sheesh rudiments sound like a chore lol but yes practice makes perfect - well closer to being perfect anyways :D i'll get cracking its really easy to practice in my house cos i have my kit in the garage and no matter how soft i play everyone upstairs can hear me. and in fact if i play normally - my bro walkin home from schl can hear me about 5 houses down the road :S

Get yourself a practice pad, a metronome, and practice some paradiddles 1am in the morning.

But anyway, yes, do practice your rudiments to a metronome, it will help you in ways beyond anything you'll expect from such hitting a rubber pad all day long.

I can see why you are dying to get rid of your ZXT, but wait, hold onto it, get enough cash, and just buy high end cymbals right away. mel80 is right, it's a lifetime investment.

So maybe now that you have some pieces of metal to hit on, just stop adding onto it and get professional series cymbals to replace those ZXTs.

Recommend Setup:

16" AA Rock Crash

yea i'm gonna try out a sabian and see how that goes

I hope that the discussion thats going on over here beneffits everybody that has contributed including me..

Choosing a cymbal is a very tedious process. U have to choose to ur taste instead of your fav drummer's taste.

Granted, that in Spore, the prices of cymbals are pricy and we have to do with wat we have..

Nevertheless, we can still save money and in the long run you may achieve ur goals. Not only in getting ur dream cymbals but also ur dream drumset..

My dream drumset is a Pearl Masterworks!!! Nuff said!!

A tip for Ditz88:

Venturing into Sabian is a very recommended thing to do since U will save a lot..

Before some of U starts to flame me, here's my reason why I said so..

If Zildjian cymbals comes in packs like Sabians AAX, AA, HH, HHX, that are available in Swee Lee, I'll convert to Zildjian or Paiste..

Since the only option lies with Sabian, I'll stick with them for a long period of time.. Buy purchasing any line of cymbal packs from the Sabian series, U'll be saving $$$$ compared when U buy each cymbals individually..

The only Zildjian Series available in Spore are the Planet Zs,ZBTs, ZXTs pro/rock and ZXTis.. What abt A customs, Z customs, Ks, or K customs? What abt Paistes high end series? None?.. hurhurhur.. Sabian it is for me...

My friend bought a set of Hand Hammered Effect packs which consists of 18" China and a 10" Splash which sound so perfect. And guess how much he got it for? For a mere $400! 8O ..

I was with him when he bought it at Sims Drive and I had a peek at the price list for Sabians.. The 18" Hand Hammered China cost $376 each and the Splash cost $176 if bought separately.. He bought the boxset for a mere $400 after discount... WHAT A STEAL!!!!!

Its Sabian all the way for me... My next target would be Mike Portnoy starter series or Phill Collins Hand Hammered 21" Raw Bell Dry ride..

8O really good price!! Hand hammered somemore!! hmmm, maybe we can have a catalogue list of price for sabian? want to buy some sabians but don't know if it's in my budget or not.

Quoted for truth. Well said.

And I'm not sure what the MP starter series is, but the Phil Collin's Ride is heaven-sent. Good choice.

Thanxx bro..

The Mike Portnoy Performance Pack (Sorri.. My bad) consists of a 22" HH Rock Ride, 14" AAX Stage Hats and 16" HHXtreme Crash.

The listed price at Swee Lee's website is $1000.. Buy individually, and U'll pay more.. If go swee lee Sims drive.. can ask for a maximum of 25% ( I hope)..

U'LL PAY ONLY $750!!!!.. Hmm.. must start saving already :)

25% discount? You're kidding right?

Anyway, those are some awesome cymbals. I totally dig the HH rock ride! I'm sure MP does too, he uses that ride on both DT and LTE projects.

Mikey uses that fabulous ride for all the DT albums! Though I'm not sure if he was endorsed by Sabian when "Dream And Day Unite" was recorded..

Actually I'm torn in between 2 selection of rides if I have enuff cash. For Rock/Metal application: 22" HH rock Ride or 24" AA Metal-X Ride :? :?

For playing General genre of music: 21" HH Raw Bell Dry Ride or 21" HHX Groove Ride. :?

Any suggestions?

Sabian Hand Hammered Effects pack for $400? Man, I gotta really start saving!

shred5 and wired, you guys know a lot about drum hardware. I'm still in the midst of learning more about drum hardware related stuff. It's been very informative reading the stuff you guys post up :)

Yeah, funny how he uses the 22" HH Rock Ride EVERYWHERE. Yet changes his setup so drastically from kit to kit.

Anyway, I can't remember the specific sound characteristics of the Phil Collin's ride. But I previously intended to get it as my main ride. That should be versatile enough for general application.

The 21" HHX Groove Ride is an excellent choice though, it's so washy yet the bell is SO LOVELY. But the HH Raw Bell Ride..... don't you think it's a little too pingy for most genres of music? I've played on them the other time and it reminded me a lot of my Zildjian A Earth Ride, except brighter. The bell is killer, too.

What's your current ride now by the way?

Haha, I guess we are the kind of people that goes around snooping for new gear every other day and start buying compulsively whenever we get the money.

Anyway, shred5 sounds like a really cool guy, we should meet up someday, pal! :D
