need cymbals - really need help - based overseas permanently

man u guys out out like wired and shred 5 are physco drum followers - haha i'm not that hardcore. yea love playing and yearn to be great lol.

and will swee lee give anyone 25% off really?? cos unfortunately i won't be there to put my lovely charms off to get a good bargin lol. i will be getting like a 40 sumthing lol auntie to get it for me. maybe she can get a bargin lol would love to save eh? who wouldn't?

If Zildjian cymbals comes in packs like Sabians AAX, AA, HH, HHX, that are available in Swee Lee, I'll convert to Zildjian or Paiste..

so shred 5 - by that comment would u say given that u could choose any brand and series - u would choose zildjian over sabian? and where can u find zildjian zxt's btw? just out of curiousity.

thanx for the advice wired - i might just do that. sound like a great idea. saving to just get a good good set. only thing is like ok well i've tried a kit with avedis on it and really i prefered my own zxts - :s should i be worried with my listenin skills and instinct lol. and menotrome is the way to go too is it? i thought about it and i thought how can u hear the darn thing while playing drums lol.

Yes, personally I feel that the metronome is the most important tool to at drummer besides his pair of drumsticks. When I practice to a practice pad, I can hear myself easily using the metronome's speaker. Otherwise when I'm behind the kit, I'll run the metronome output into the receiver and out again into my earpiece, which I'll then cover over with isolation headphones.

Anyway, ZXTs are cheap pieces of metal cut into the shape of circles with a bell punched into the center. Avedis, on the other hand, are professional grade cymbals, secret metal alloy which is cast into cymbals, machine hammered and lathed, sonically tested and approved before being sent out to the stores. No offense meant, but you really need to get those ears checked.

Personally, after playing cymbals ranging from stock factory cymbals to high end cymbals for some time now, it is very easily to identify the various sound qualities of a cymbal which either make it good or bad enough to be replaced with a trashcan lid.

You probably got too used to the sound of your ZXTs, but try playing them side by side to the Avedis, it's hard to say that the ZXTs will sound better.

Hahahaha   .. Don't worry..If all the Sabian in Spore is gonna be wiped out like those bought by the infamous Apek during the Swee Lee sale, I'll still stick to Sabian..

As drummers, its good (and I'm not stating "best" bcos it all depends on our capabilities) to have cymbals that are applicable to the playing situation that we are involve with.

And take note taht its not a sin to play other brand of cymbals other than the one U like.

For eg: Lars Ulrich.. I dont who he is!! :P .. but wat i know is that he is a Zildjian artist wayback from Kill Em All. If any of U guys have watched Nothing Else Matters video or any Metallica video that has scenes of them recording sonds in the studios, U'll noticed that Lars uses a pair of 14" Sabian AA Rock Hats instead of the normal 14" Dynobeat Z hats that he uses for Live purposes...

Lars himself said that he's been "endorsing" only that Sabian Hats particularly for recording. He's not afraid abt Zildjian taking any action cos for recording, he finds that Sabian AA Rock Hats has more tones than those Dynobeats and he has made it clear with Zildjian that he's still using Zildjian until the day he dies.. HAHAHAHA!!! Talk about faithfulness..

When playing live, cymbals with high projection that can cut through the music that I'm playing is the the one that I looked for. For recording, its GOOD to get cymbals that's suited best for studio purposes..
And there are those cymbals that are good for both live and recording situation..

I myself cannot imagine recording with Paiste 101 or Zildjian's Planet Zs or ZBTs or Solars.

The sound engineer is gonna hate me for this and he's really gonna scream and shout..

Its a totally different situation in Spore when U are jamming with the cymbals thats provided by studios.. Those weird cymbals that we used to jam with with are very weird sounding but beggars cant be choosers right.

"Just whack lah.. Not our cymbals what.. "

In the end, we lose more than we gain bcos IMO bcos, in the future, all the cymbals will sound the same.

Be it Trojan, Chamber, Carlos, Sabian, Zildjian, etc, etc...

Some studios do provide excellent cymbals for jammers.

Guitar77 is one. Sabian AAXs all the way lah!!

Wau!!! Spoilt for choice. Which one to hit first? Left one or the right one?

Bluetail Studios and Fourtones are those that I know. If any of U guys knows any studios that provide excellent cymbals choices please state here also.

Wired: Drumresources is gonna take over the hiphop record store beside guitar77 studio.. Its gonna be a drummers paradise dude. We should meet up and talk, bash, discuss and talk drums. I'll bring along my drumming buddies that i usually have my discussion with.

Mel80 shld have more info abt this since he's teaching drums at guitar77.

Abt my current, I'm using the free 20"HH medium that I got.. I like the warmth when U hit the bell but for heavier music, u need a bigger bell for the "ping". Its either the 22" HH Rock ride or the bigger 24" Metal AA-X..

Its even better to get the ride that's best for both..

Yup.. We should meet up one day.. Probably next mth when Drumresources are opened. :) .

Ditz88Buy cymbals with ur ears not with ur eyes

Sounds sweet, shred5! Hit me up on my MSN or something.

Anyway, free 20" HH Ride? Wow.

And yes, a good ping is very important, but a 24" ride? 8O Don't AAX-Metal rides have a nicely sized bell already? I imagine the overtones of the ride to be very overwhelming.

Anyway, while we're on the topic of brand loyalty. I personally don't prefer any specific brand of cymbals, infact, I use both Zildjians and Sabians, and I have Paiste, Sabian and Zildjian stickers on my bass drum. I don't think it's good to be a brand whore, it limits your sound. Furthermore, unless you're an endorsed player, you should feel free to pick your palette of sounds from various brands and series. This goes out to the many new drummers out there who seem to prefer a certain brand or series of cymbals over another, maybe because of their drumming idol, or maybe to look consistent, but don't, it is very detrimental to your sound.

shred5 is right when he said to use your ears and not your eyes when picking cymbals. Get a friend to hit a bunch of cymbals without you looking, then pick the sound you really like.

Woah shred5 you update your info about stuff really fast man lol. Yup. Drumresources is gonna take over the DJ shop beside Guitar77 studio soon. Finally, an all-drum shop for us, the drummers!

Yeah we should all meet up there when it opens. What I've heard is that there will be drum studios in the shop as well. Can't wait for them to start operating already :)

HAHAHAHA!! I always hangout at Luthermusic also.. Dats why always meet up with Rui and talk cock with him..

I definitely can't wait to see the new "HQ" for drummers man!!

The drum shop concept is excellent. So many guitars shop. About time drummers get a drum shop. And the location is excellent.

:partyman:

But so far still haven't gotten the chance to bump into you shred5. I'm at G77 studio quite often as well. No fate lah hahahaa. Nevertheless, hope to see you around there soon man (I'm pretty sure we will lol). Especially when drumresources open shop! :D
