Hello,

Ok please comment, I wish to record my electric guitar from amp with a mic, and am thinking whether to get a:

Lexicon Alpha
https://www.billyhydemusic.com.au/shop/index.cfm?action=view&id=767

or mixer, like tapco mix100.

I have a standard soundcard, do I need a soundcard also. Basically I will just be recording guitar, and then soloing the already recorded part.

I am using audacity, apparently read abotu latency etc, and the lexicon will reduce this, anyway, I have no idea, just tell me what to get and I will get it haha

Thanks

the mixer is not necessary if just recording guitar and doing overdubbing to backing track.

To reduce latency, it doesnt depend on any audio interface. Its all about your computer processing speed.

I suggest taking some time, go thru the various recording threads in the forum here. Theres some goot info procided by blueprintstudio and thoa, that will help a lot.

not really, the interface matters quite abit. but for the threadstarters purpose latency isn't really an issue if hes just recording and overdubbing guitars..

unless like i suggested on the other thread, hes going to be using cabinet emulation for his amp head via plugins..latency comes into play there.

havent used the lexicon, but it seems to be a solid buy. might be pricy though, there are cheaper alternatives

i'm not sure what you're looking at budget wise, but a presonus firebox might be a good bet, or the m-audio solo. if you're not looking to get into any semi-serious recording in the near future even one of those behringer interfaces might work. hung brothers in sim lim has quite a few interface choices last i checked.

I use the EMU 0202 USB myself. Its a 2 in 2 out, 24/192, usb 2.0 and only slightly above $200. Love everything about it except it has only one mic pre w/o phantom and no master out volume control..
