Wow, tks 4 all the insights! Certainly looks like there's more options to consider right now. Im currently using an Epi LP with stock p90s so im hoping that my next guitar will not stray too much from my current sound. In this case i was thinking of a guitar with P90s or Humbucks option rather than the thin sounding single coil.

Tornados, Cyclones, Mustangs, Jaguar.... i'm torn. Are they customisable apart from sticking to their Single Coils??

Look & mojo wise, i like the stripes!! (kinda like the competion mustangs)

Oh yeah, mahagony bodies & rosewood fingerboard are good 2 have as well.

1) P90, Humbuck option
2) mahagony body

there are several incarnations of the Toronado, the latest of which (2005) is a mexican model with the racing stripes (Toronado GT) on the body + matching headstock/ body finish. also, the body's now mahogany:

the toronado has a cult following in the states, especially the original mex version. however, many people avoided the guitar due to its quirky hybrid outline- that of a jag/ jazzmaster. nevertheless, all the Toronados i tried sounded full & worth investing.

here's the Highway1 Toronado specs:
*Alder body with a Satin Urethane Finish
*24 3/4" Scale
*One piece Maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard
*22 Medium Jumbo Frets
*Two Fender Atomic II Humbucking Pickups
*Adjusto-Matic Bridge with Anchored-Tailpiece
*3-way Switching: Volume, Tone
