Music talk 2008

bro sub,is the new Keep Of Kalessin album any good ? i've had a few listen on their myspace and find it somehow not quite as good as their ARMADA album.probably because i've not yet listened to the whole album yet :)

Kolossus is superb! it's clearly not the continuation of Armada, where some of the riffs were recycled & lacking in variation. there would be people who would be put off by the acoustic bits because they think Obsidian & co. are trying to pull off a Borknagar but Kolossus is thematically about some calm after a hostile storm. the accompanying DVD is also informative pertaining to the album's conception.

just got these today from the mighty To Megatherion at Peninsula Shopping Centre:

Confessor - Unravelled (progressive doom???)

Revenge - Infiltration Downfall Death (yes the warblackgrind godz are baaack!!! more of the same sonic violence n' madness....great!!!!)

Hey Sub,

Upon your recommendation from your weblog, I purchased Till Death Do Us Part, and was rightly pleased with the recording. Good weblog you've there, I'm a regular reader, so keep up the good work!

And yes, finally managed to get my hands on Watershed. It just seems like Opeth can never do anything wrong, despite the departure of Peter and such. Awesome album. Awesome.

its been a very dooooooooooooooomy few days:

Khanate - Capture & Release (improv free-jazz dooooooom?)

Keiji Haino & Boris - Black:Implication Flooding (avant weird drone-rockin)

Isis - Red Sea/1998 Demo (post-hardcore sludge.......unlike their more postrock-metal sound these days)

Boris - Smile (pop garage-stoner doom?)

Hjarnidaudi - Pain Noise March (funeral dooooooooooooom)

thanks for dropping by- the ones @ my blog aren't 'reveiws' per se, just some personal reflections of what i bought/ heard. the post-Hoffman brothers Deicide line-up does well music-wise, especially the guitars.

hahaha i also love it when they're INCAPABLE musically but are creatively able to whip up a serious sonic dronedoom storm!!! of course the ultimate eg of such would be the great Sunn O)))...............jokers to the max!!!

Yes!

Awesome, just got it yesterday, listening to it now, beautiful !

FIN/Overhaul In Damnation - Closing In split cdr (doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom to slit wrist to.....just that its v long and painful.........)

Capricorns - Ruder Forms Survive (sludgy instr00-metaaal....like Pelican meets Mogwai)

Revenge - Triumph Genocide Antichrist (the first album of pure tornado warblackgrind madness)

Psychotherapy - Metal Madness (Venom meets thrash metal?)

Moss - Cthonic Rites (sick wretched filth-encrusted dooooooooooooooooom...)

bought these from To Megatherion yesterday:

Impiety - Dominator EP (yes more pulverising blackdeath attak from our greatest satansons!!!)

Striborg - Misanthropic Isolation/Roaming The Forests (wow so ridiculously lo-fi blackmetal ambient buzzsaw joy!!!)

Coldplay - Viva La Vida

A pretty diverse outing for Chris Martin and gang. Can really hear Brian Eno's producing influences here, with all the ambient sounding soundscapes through out the whole album. This one sounds very different from the previous 3 albums released by them. Not as commercial sounding and catchy as the previous 3 but definitely worth a listen.

Haha no offence to our local darlings the Observatory, but I cannot even imagine that Opeth would rip anything off them.
