Music industry trends for teens

Well, actually there're quite a few different genres that teens nowadays like. Eg. Indie,pop-rock,rap,R&B,metal,not forgetting mandopop as well as whatever that's on the radio.

its not so much on rock that everyone likes anymore. its whatever is on the FRIGGING radio. The problem with Singaporeans is that they love mainstream music too much instead of indie.

Believe me. Those who are weaned on what's on the radio won't bother searching for good indie stuff

it really depends on the radio channel too. i dont think a scene kid will be listening to gold 90.5fm or symphony 92.4fm i think.

at the moment, i see alot of people into indie/british music. can see in the style oso with the super tight tees, hat and vest.

oh ya now i guess the popular genre in rock is the very pop-pish kind. think of boys like girls, we the kings etc.

but the most important thing is that, all genres are still existent here. the question is that which is the more obvious one thats all. im not a metalhead but im sure there metal gigs here and there. punk and hardcore as well, indie definitely.

yea, go out often and observe. dont go esplanade anymore though. last time ok ah. now not relevant. all emokids and mats. lol.

file sharing... ive not seen this subtopic for a long time. easy said, file sharing is popular among teens cuz its free. teens do not have to spend their hard-saved money, cuz they rather spend their money on clothes and movies. just to complete the look. can't blame them cuz theyre young, part of the growing up phase. its the same for almost everyone. theyve yet to understand the morality and economics behind a band selling albums and why people buy them. it takes time and most importantly maturity.
but bands cant complain much though. cuz they get exposure. and teens make up the best market for fresh ideas.

Holy crap! They do that? Haha I starve my wardrobe to buy albums, except when CNY comes .

Think about it, if alot of people like one particular indie band ( indie stands for independent anyway but I'll stick to your context of the term ) then won't the band be now mainstream and on the radio?

i think it's a trend for kids nowadays to have this mindset tht it's cool to listen to brutal music and not for the love, passion of music itself.they just think it's 'cool'.fck being cool man.hell some dont even know who the flying fck is Iron Maiden man...they think it's some new gay ass band.learn your music history kids...

Dime, why do you say 'seperate rockers from crappers'? I honestly don't think musicians who play pop or the hip hop artists are crappers. Sure I may not like all their stuff and even personally hate some (such as the 'thats no-ma-name! song) but that doesn't mean they are crappers. Other people like them and their songs, means that they must be worth something.

Rock and metal isn't all there is to the musical world.

many of my friends listen to mainstream music. listen to those hiphop-no-melody-and-rihanna kinda music. They just want to fit into some sort of group by listening to these kind of music.
