i think Pop and R&B are very popular among the teens.
especially most of them listen to 98.7 i guess; the most popular station in Singapore ?
and i feel that rock & metal listeners are minorities compared to pop tunes.

Hello there, I'm here to revive this thread because of the same reason as the thread-starter. I don't want to start a new thread because I know about this thread.

I'm doing the UIR (Now it's EIR) project, and I'm in temasek poly. Well this thread has been quite dead, so I think it's relevant to just ask you guys for your opinions again because many bands and artists have bloomed really recently with their new songs and albums.

E.g. Avenged Sevenfold's new album has attracted the non-a7x listeners to listen to some of their softer songs like Dear God.

So.... I guess the trend for the music industry has changed yet again?

The theme is "Discuss the trends in the music industry for teenagers".

PS: A7x is just an example of the changed trend

Hey, I'm doing a research at the moment and I would like to ask for your views on what are the latest trends in the music industry for teens. Genre of music is fine as well as things other than just music..thanks!

at the moment, biggest over here is probably the entire emoish pop rock thing.
Also, it got alot of people to wear skinny jeans, tight short-sleeved shirts and grow their hair to hang over their face, though that's kind of dead now, there's still a variation of that going around though.

I would think, you can correlate the trends in Singapore music to 3 places: US top 40s, Taiwan, Malaysia (Western music, chinese pop, and malay/indon pop)

British music, don't forget. That's the best of all, it edges America music in no time at all. The quality,entertainment,everything is number one

file sharing... ive not seen this subtopic for a long time. easy said, file sharing is popular among teens cuz its free. teens do not have to spend their hard-saved money, cuz they rather spend their money on clothes and movies. just to complete the look. can't blame them cuz theyre young, part of the growing up phase. its the same for almost everyone. theyve yet to understand the morality and economics behind a band selling albums and why people buy them. it takes time and most importantly maturity.
but bands cant complain much though. cuz they get exposure. and teens make up the best market for fresh ideas.

Well, actually there're quite a few different genres that teens nowadays like. Eg. Indie,pop-rock,rap,R&B,metal,not forgetting mandopop as well as whatever that's on the radio.

whatever is being sold in peninsula/excelsior basement. except the 2 color skinnies. those pants aren't too popular... YET.
