Multi effects!

Hello folks, trying to decide between the PODXtlive and VOX tonelabs SE...I'm sick at home and cant go and try them but leave for Europe and America tomorrow, so looking to go and try them there. I was wondering - has anyone tried both? Have one or the other? I play 70% metal and the rest is all other styles, so I want something versatile. What I can see from reviews is that the vox may sound warmer cause of the tube, but the line 6 seems more geared towards metal music, while the vox to classic rock etc. Any ideas? Id also like to know which one has a good acoustic simulator...any feedback would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

eeee eeee multi fx! ee eeee....

ok seriously, metal.. im guessing DT sounding stuff, along that lines? my fren plays metale an sorts and uses a pod XT, NOT the xt live, but on the other hand he recommends the xt live cos of the portability and similarity to the xt's functions..

i guess with the damn good amp/cab sims, and the myriad of fx, the xt live would be a good choice, since after all, it IS one of the multi fx if u want to get, to GET. go try try lor at city music..

if your thinking about getting the multi-effex, frm overseas, don't really get your hopes too high, becuase it might only be THEIR local warranty, and if mfx spoi, den got big prob, safer to get frm sg, anw mi vote goes to the POD XT, over the vox

I vote the xtlive for metal. Most of their patches are actually geared towards hi-gain.

The Vox tonelab has extremely good amp emulating capabilities which I feel imo to be the best among all current multi-efx. But I hadn tried the latest zoom g1.something series which has a tube in it too. In this regard I believe it should have a nice sounding acoustic sim.

Ah there's something about the tonelab se which has an issue about not being able to use 2 effects together (have to research on this) due to the way they are categorized. Maybe someone else in the forums can shed light on this.

Ok thanks for the info, but i was afraid you would all think im only playing thrashy stuff :D I am not really into the convential metal thin mid scooped sound, i like my distortion very thick. I wont always be playing hi gain stuff, i want to do alot of cleans also...

The od/distortion pedals, compressor and wahs are put in the same category which means that they can't be on at the same time (i.e. cannot wah + OD pedal). That said, I don't find it much of an issue since I tend to use the amp models for distortion (which is the whole point really). Same goes for the modulation effects (i.e. no tremolo + chorus), delays and reverb.

Being able to have 2 switchable channels of any amp model on a patch is quite useful. That the GT8 has too, not on the PODXTL I think.

I'd suggest reading up the mannuals for both units on the net before you go for a test run at the stores so you can spend more time listening to the units rather than trying to figure out how to operate them. See if you can get tones you're happy with instead of relying on patches.

for me i would go for the XT LIVE due to its easy functions and user-friendly kinda thing... easily can create and save patches through computer... super conveniece... and SMALLER

i used to own a VOX TLSE myself... and yes agree that it has good amp emulating like almondx says... i was a happy guy using that with 2 experssion pedal that made my giging life so much easier to turn this on off use this use that... very nice to play live... however it is not computer base so the patches are saved on the thing itself only....

however ive moved to the analog world.. *come to the dark side..........*

Well I dont mind spending time to learn how to use it - that is not important. The idea is that this thing will take me through music ui, where i will need to play lots of different styles! Im mor concerned about a good sound. Ive heard line6 is good, but them read something that the distortion is thin...

its not THAT thinny fizzy kinda thing

i used to have the misconception but since my friend got it and played through a Gibson classic the sound is awesome straigt to house

Warlord, I know you... totally into the HEAVY METAL thing right?

Check this out.

Then FLIP.

I just got 1 and its a keeper for the standard HEAVY metal tones, should I ever need it... Very nice. Will post some clips later...

If you need a description... well.. its very similiar to the Metalzone, but without the blanket and fizz... very VERY chug and in your face.

Way to thin sounding for me...

wow..

i sounds real nice to me.. cant imagine its a strat.. not a bad price for a tube pedal.. hows the dynamics??

thks

None to speak off. :) its metal, at that level of gain, i don't think anyone should be expecting dynamics.

I don't think the tube plays much of a role anyway... its metal!! How much tube warm do you want? :P

Okay okay.. relax realx... i go record k? :D

One thing, I'm running it on 9v instead of 12v, so the tone MIGHT be slightly different... comparing to the website clips, my 9v MM-X sounds a little more congested/constipated, like you know, the notes are more compressed.

Nonetheless, I'll conjure something.
