well.. ya.. muffling..

i heard that there's this muffler for bass drum that can totally wipe out the bass drum sound.. anyone heard of it? where to get it? and oso. is there any kind of muffler that can bring the toms and snare down to a minimun without totally removing the sound? i mean.. no talkinb aobut a platform or a curtain or cushion. for the drums la.. cuz i want at least some tom sound or something haha.

yea and oso.. wat's the rough price?

i've tried look at the earler posts and it wasn't well informed.

:)
Hey,
I stuff newspapers into my toms and snare, minimizing the sound, still maintaining some feel.... bass drum stuff old blankets but sound still quite loud cant help on this.....
Jus my 2 cents worth...

huh!?! wow newspapers?!? haha i mean i want something to muffle it. yet i can remove it just as quickly too.. but anyway.. i'm really noob at this. but how do u put pillows into the bass drum? do i have to remove the whole skin? and if i do.. does it involve unscreweing the lugs to the max.. then taking the skin out? i really don't have a clue.

ya i remove the skins and stuff them in.....
same for the bass drum.....
toms i usually play normally, only when i want to hit hard than stuff newspapers...
It worksfor me,,, see if it suits you..
:partyman:

wow cool!! cheap and easy.. ok i go try it.. hopfully i don't wreck my drums.. :D

is there an effective way to mute the bass drum? i need to practice my double pedaling..

i thought there were pads that could be placed over drums - like sabian quiet tone or the HQ mutes. But i haven't used them before, so can't really say if you can get some of the sound.

yea those pads totally drain away the sound. which i dowan. i want something that can remove alot of the sound. yet have a little bit of the ringing tone. stuffing the newspapers seem to work well for me and i literraly dumped over a kg of newspapers and pillows towels into the bass drum.. it's still so damn loud.. sheesh. nvm

Sabian Quiet Tones is good cause it has the same feel as a drum skin and it helps you to filter the sound but a drum mutes like HQ is those rubber pads and you'll feel very awkward hitting on it......

Though nothing beats the sound of an acoustic drums...so I just bash on the skins....

Tune the drums well, let them sing out, don't muffle them one bit. And just practice on them like how you're supposed to. They're acoustic for a reason, otherwise, just go practice on them with rubber mutes on. Seriously though, you have a fine drumset there, don't ruin it by stuffing it with crap. Don't go for muffled and cardboard box-like sounds, you're better off practicing on rubber mutes.

the idea is that i wanna try to minimize the noise. yet have the feel of playing the drums. not rubber. (which i am DAMN sick of)

they are accoustic for a reason. and i'm muffling them for a reason.

btw, i was thinking of changing the heads of the drums. any reccomendations as to which head will sound nice on an ARTSTAR? i'm really noob at this.

hhahaha...

i suggest...

EVANS G2s...up to u want the clear or coated ones.Coated is darker sound.Clear slightly brighter. Reason why i suggest G2s is because it still retains the natural sound of the drum without killing all the resonance...

Quite ex thou...

thats for the top....

the reso head...i tink either use the stock ones or Remo ambassadors :D

cheers...ur 1 uber lucky man i tell u!

Not everyone lives in a private estate or has tolerant neighbours... and yeah, it's pretty sickening to play on rubber all the time.

Actually if I were a teacher I'd get a student to work on a snare drum all day until he has developed rudimental efficiency. You can't play four drums if you can't play ONE drum. If you got your rudiments down, things like the rosanna shuffle and blushdas are nothing. Initially i had probs with the blushda (cos i dunno what the heck it was) but when i put it on paper and realised it was just a flam drag, it was really easy.

Ok i am damn out of point. Drummer buah, i think the sabian quiet tones will be quite suited to you, although they ARE rubber pads... and ya they do have 20 and 22" bass drum pads. If you stuff newspapers you might be able to get the drums to sound softer with a lot less boom and ring but u will kill the feel of the drum. Will feel like playing on cardboards. Another thing u can do is practice on the quiet tone pads, get the lick/pattern down, then remove them and play on the real heads themselves to get the feel of an acoustic kit, for maybe an hour or so. I don't think your neighbours will complain about an hour a day's worth of drumming.

I don't get it. You're getting a whole set of brand new heads, only to muffle the crap out of them? Seriously, those are some really fine drums there. Why play them muffled and toneless which makes them no different from a budget Pearl Forum or something.

And yeah, you have an electronic drumset. Use it. And practice on the acoustic kit during busy times of the days with hotrods or something. Those would make it sufficiently tolerable for your neighbours.

I'll say it again, man, those are some FINE drums. Enjoy them the way acoustic drums are meant to be enjoyed. Silencing them would be a real crime.

u could try facing the drumset to a wall...i think...

silencing drums isn't a real crime, but causing a public nuisiance and noise polution is
