MP3 or CDs?

For me I prefer both because CDs I would buy and keep if I like that band or artist very much while mp3 is for convenience if I only like a few songs from the artist. But would prefer CD more from local bands.

Mobius: Errr this technology already exists. There are multiple formats that compress files losslessly such as .flac and apple lossless. It's just that they each have their pros and cons.

Ippier: Yeah man a lot of people merely download the "hit single" but neglect the rest of the albums. Maybe it's because the rest of the album sucks? Good artists with a reputation of producing good tracks across the entire CD will definitely get their CDs sold to the discerning crowd.

dir: Agree with you too. I can't tell the difference on ALL the tracks I've double blinded on, but there're some subtle differences that can be picked up on some tracks. It's true that you can't tell the difference unless you have audiophile grade equipment, but unless you get CD quality music now, next time you upgrade your equipment also no use.

To test the difference between MP3 sound and an original cd, BLAST your cd to the max. MP3 sound will sound much softer than the original. Barely clear.

a well-encoded mp3 can be just as loud as a CD.
I like this myth of mp3s sounding like crap. either you're don't know how to rip and encode them, or you're downloading from ares or some shitty p2p

What if the companies market certain songs for free and put in promos and extra stuff on CD? or maybe they should just put in a lot more things in a DVD straight. Things you can't really get online. Like Willy Wonka's Golden Ticket.

u guys who listen to mp3 players,at home simply listen to songs in mp3 format through PC n not proper home audio system isit?I still dig CD's.still carry discman inside my bag when going to work. I love the mp3 players with ALBUM ART and unfortunately not all players have this feature, certain models kinda overlook in this department.Weird.Scrolling mp3s with only title words feel kinda 'hollow'.Theres nothing like owning a shelf stocked with 500 original cds of artists u love compared to 5000 downloaded mp3s u stored in the hard disk.

Well, Cds are round. I love round things. :)

As long as it listenables, I like :)

But CDs are still for me tho. But I prefer DVDS/BLURaY more.

i dont listen to MP3, i dont listen to CDs

i only listen to WAV

just kidding. but anyway, the death of the CD will effectively see the death of record stores. in that respect CDs will never be obsolete in the foreseeable future. however it is very likely that both CDs and digital music can coexist. in fact it is already happening (ever heard of itunes?)

i just downloaded the new NIN free album and it came in various formats, many of which were higher than CD quality. the album insert came in PDF format. and yes, they had the album in WAV format as well. not only that, the album was downloadable via torrents

CDs tp MP3s...but nothing below 320kbps. After that keep the CDs in cd case so they'll last longer. I prefer MP3 players coz you can squeeze in as many albums and songs as you can, thats thier huge advantage. But yeah, still buying cds.

Yeah, no matter how good the mp3 or wav file is, they are still already compressed and there would sure to be a loss of quality...

You know, riff wav files can be compressed.

I prefer CD+DVD+160 page colour booklet. Other than that, >=192kbps mp3. Or flac.
