MP3 or CDs?

Debatable question when most will obviously pick MP3 for convenience.
With MP3s wiping out the discman era, or even the walkman era, is it always the better choice?
CD will never be extinct. Music artiste will still be producing albums, and perhaps, now conveniently selling their music for downloads online in MP3 format.
What's your take on this?
I'm still quite, EPIC. I love the sound quality of cds. And yes, I rather have better music than convenience. :)

protip: mp3's can sound as good as cds too

personally I like to have a hard copy and artwork but if I buy a CD, it's just to rip and store it for listening on my ipod or computer.
also, vinyl is still quite popular.

i would prefer mp3s.
the quality are of the same, just different format.
and u can choose to download/buy specific songs that u want to listen instead of the whole album.

For the ease of use is of course MP3s.

For audio quality wise, its CD/DVDs for me.

But vinyl still rules them all!

CDs anyday. Because:

1. I support the artists that I listen to.

2. I can hear a difference between 320kbps .mp3 and 1411kbps .flac files ripped from a CD

3. The experience of opening up a CD and looking through the accompanying booklet cannot be replicated by downloading a mere mp3.

MP3 is easy and fast?? Haha but still i prefer to the good old days of Discman, though now i still own a MP3 and Discman haha, Walkman anyone???

walkman here!!

yes, CD will be here for a long time. artists distribute their music through CDs. though mp3s are on the rise, being available over the internet, not many have access to internet or use the internet oh so frequently. or dont know how to use.

When buying cds that are ORIGINAL, i feel so much safer. And also, i feel like I'm worthy to be a fan of the band that I support! Proud to own the entire collection of Draconian and Swallow The Sun discography. :D
MP3 suck out alot of the quality sound from cd...

I rip CDs to the computer cause it's more convenient to listen to. But I still buy albums, I go OUT and get the damned album. It's far more worth it cause you feel the physical matter in your hands and you can check the artwork and see the direction of the album.

With mp3s you only get to listen, where's the beauty in that? But another's cure might be another's poison, to each his own.

Buying mp3s online is not that accessible for anyone without a credit card. So I find CDs to be more accessible.

Read somewhere that a new technology of compressing wave files without compromising quality is being developed. Like it or not digital music is the new direction.

I really prefer CDs for now.

Until the day technology can really re-create CD's quality in a very small file, it will be CD for me.

It's MP3s for me. Actually I do think that the cd is dying a slow death. Mainly because casual listeners nowadays simply go and download the song that is the most "hit" on the streets and can't be bothered with the cd.
The question now is : How are people going to charge for the song download?
If cannot solve the problem of song downloading, I think that music will properly become more focused on live performances. Artists will make their living through live concerts and probably songs in mp3 format will be just for promotional purposes.
Just a very dark prediction here, I also hope that this will not happen because I love writing songs and arranging them.

You're absolutely wrong.

Anyway,

I'd take CDs any day. Next best thing'd be lossless. I rip my CDs into wav. and then compress them to .flac. Or alac. for my Ipod.

Most people can't tell the difference between v0 or --ape rips and uncompressed 44/16.1 wavs. 90% of the ones that say they do usually fail in blind tests. Unless you have audiophile equipment then it's really pointless to listen to lossless stuff, unless of coure you don't really care and have lots of disk space.

just sayin'

Musicians have always made their living mostly through touring and gigging. the only real people getting hurt are the major companies and their hit stars. It would be nice to move a thousand vinyls every week but it's the digital age now and these companies have to learn to catch up.

heh, long time ago, people who are on vinyl prolly think cds suck big time.

Many years later, mp3 be the rage and the new media be the next lousy format

There're choices, my friend. Even if digital music is the new thang, them booty can still be shakin' to vinyl, yo'. There's no need to follow the flo'. It's not a rule, it's a new avenue for musicians to let music out to the public.

I'd be worried if they stop CD manufacturing though...but looking at vinyls...I don't think so....
