Most overrated guitarists

Haha yesi totally agree with the kurt cobain one.

Oh yes I came across this exact same thread on UG and alot of them mentioned Kirk Hammett is way overrated cos of the popularity of metallica as a band and his overuse of wah and pentatonic scales.

Any views?
 
Yeah Herman Li's definitely overrated, whats the point of coming with an epic album when you cant play it live, should rename Studioforce.

IMO, Slipknot's M Thomson and Jim Root are underrated, of course with their "we only like to play the 1st six frets" motto in their previous albums. At least they get a few solos going on in their latest release.

kirk hammet not overrated lah. and he doesnt overuses the pentatonic scale. who said overusing the pentatonic scale is overrated? like that then many guitarist overrated already. kirk just so called "cover up" his mistakes by using lots of gain and the wah.

so its up to u to decide if he's overrated

Tom Morello isnt overrated. He virtually invented a whole new style of playing with effects and he chose not to use his technical ability. His early songs were shredfests....before RATM era. If you don believe me go youtube. And he was taught by the fastest shredder of all time, Michael Angelo Batio!

Hes a guy with taste, someone who has technical ability but choses to play for the song and not wank. I have great respect for musicians like that...and he is an innovator as well.

That kid from Green Day. He is one of the last few guys whom I thought would get his own signature Les Paul, even though it's just a Les Paul Jr. He's so overrated I can't even remember his name. Meh..

but whats wrong with having a signature model?? if youre famous and u suck, still, why not?

there will be obsessive tom delonge fans that are tone deaf who will buy his guitar. imo, having a signature guitar doesnt make one overrated.
 
tom delonge is not overrated. no one ever said he was the frickin greatest guitarist ever. how many people can churn out hit after hit with nothing but power chords and simple riffs huh? :D /avafanboy

Kirk (I am sorry. But Cliff and James kicked more ass!)

But I have to say, to be good, technical skill and composition skill comes into play. With that being said, I'll always be wondering how the hell they came up with that riff or solo.
 
dimebag would probably shred the balls off anybody here who said he was overrated if he wasnt dead...such ferocity yet feeling it at the same time.
