Modding pedals?

Hi all,

Is there anyone on board that mod pedals?
I would like to mod my PS5 to true bypass, is that possible? Anybody done that before? Price?

I absolutely love this pedal, but it sucks too much tone out. So I only add it to my rig when it's absolutely needed. I would love to have this pedal stay in my pedal board permanently.

Help?

Yes boss pedals can be true bypassed but it's too complicated... just get a true bypass looper and throw all your tone sucky pedals in the loop

Thanks for the info, I'll chcek that option out.

Does buffer bypass pedals help the situation at all?

BTW, forgot to add any one mod Crybaby (GCB95) to true bypass?
I have too much sucky pedals

Check out Randolf. He might be able to help you. As for your true bypass issue, Randolf has advice me that true bypass maybe a good thing & may not be a good thing. You can ask him for more info.

namle: I'm thinking of the TCE SCF pedal as a buffer pedal at the beginning of the chain.

leecs: Randolf's user name is Randolf too? I'll sure check with him too.

Thanks guys! :D

*keep the inputs coming in guys...
If all is lost, I think I would just sell off the wah and get a Keeley one

I do mod Boss pedals and the like to true bypass, but as said, you may or not like it. A true bypass pedal may be a better solution unless you are completely sure that's what you want.

The Boss pedal will have a big hole on top for a 3pdt, like this:

I have seen someone do a true bypass via relays but I have not tried that myself.

theblueark: Could you elaborate more on why not everyone will like it? And a true bypass pedal, is it the same as gsonique pointed out, a looper?

leecs: Thanks!

If your SCF is going to be the buffer and 1st in line, then... i don't think there would be an issue if the rest of the pedals are to be TB.

Just... know what's bad about TB.

Know what can be good about buffered pedals, and try each out.

I second the looper idea, much simpler. And possibly cheaper in the long run.

True Bypass is a good thing if you have a large rig of pedals and rack devices that you must intergrate into your rig... and then some. It's a passive(non electronic) way to switch pedals in and out of the signal chain between the guitar to the amp. This is good but unfortunately not in all cases. Most if not all the pedals out there that use the "click, click" passive mechanical designed 2pdt or 3pdt switches cheap or ex. eventually wear out, break down or start behaving in intermittent ways that result in unpredictable ticks and pops each time you stomp on them.

However, If there's one pedal that 1'd always recommend for true bypass it's usually the wah pedal as the tonal difference is significant enough for entry level players to detect.

Unless one is in the league of arena players to engage Pete Cornish or Bob Brashaw to custom design their rig layout and design an elaborate electronic switching that will recall almost any combination of individual pedals with a single assigned footswitch I'd suggest investigating some of the more affordable bypass strips and switching systems like what's currently available from Voodoolabs.

:)

^ no need true bypass ...a nice buffer will do the trick

Btw Boss 'flip flop fet switch' type can be modded to true bypass without a mechanical switch....but using the existing tactile and ... :D ok i stop here !!

^this pedal is true bypass using tactile :D

My main concern with true bypass is impedence matching of effects. If your effects are buffered bypass, then the impedence in to each input is consistent, and your volume levels are consistent and dependable. Although rare, there are some effects which provide very high or low impedence in or out, and chaining a couple of these in true bypass form will lead to inconsistent volume levels or performance when you put them in series in different ways.

Seldom experienced, but to summarise, the key advantage buffered bypass has over true bypass is consistency.

embryo: Thanks Randolf! I'ver read some articles about true bypass, alot of different opinions about them. I'll research more about them. BTW, how much for you to mod my GCB95 to true bypass? Please PM me your price, thanks.

thor666: I guess I'll just throw it in a loop for the time being.

gsonique: Before or after the wah?

theblueark: Could you list out some of the pedals that you have described?
