Modding and Rehousing of Danelectro Fab pedal(s)

Like being mentioned on my thread title above, may I know if it is possible? I know that these Fab pedals are made of some plastic material and therefore are not sturdy. Some might say that they're not worth buying- better to save up for a better one. I was thinking about the Ibanez DE-7 or the the Artec Analog Delay SE-ADL.

I know that this seems to be a noob question. Please don't hit on me so much. Instead, you could enlighten me with the actual fact(s). I'm an open-minded person and therefore I can accept any forms of comments by anyone as long as they're all constructive.

I was checking out YouTube last night and here was what I found:

1) http://youtube.com/watch?v=95Lv76ubxeM - In this one, the person has consolidate two fab pedals into one which he name it Superillegal Fudgemaker. 8 seconds into the video, a text showing what was modded in the Fab Echo pedal appears.

2) http://youtube.com/watch?v=sG3AwBtR9ok - Here, I don't know what he did there but what I know is that he modded it until it sounds so nice(at least to my ear).

So, here I would like to ask anyone out there who could do this 'modding' and 'rehousing' thing to PM me your price. I'm looking to buy the Fab Echo pedal.

There are two videos up there and my heart fell for the 2nd one.

Thanks.

i concur with both the above. if i'm not wrong, we have a few softies who set up shop doing something like that as well.

seekz custom stomps or something like that (sorry if i got it wrong)

they do good rehousing work as well. :)

www.theblueark.com

This local guy can do that. The prices he quotes on the website are "$100 and upwards". But are those dano fab circuits really worth the hassle and the money? Or do you want it rehoused just for vanity's sake?

dnt let the plastic housing fool you. unless you're like me, who likes to wear combat boots/ industrial boots for gigs, the plastic casing should hold up.

Wow! $100 or more just to mod and rehouse?? Nevermind then. Rather than spending $100 or so just to mod and rehouse, may as well I use the money to buy myself an Ibanez DE-7. Any idea how much is it brand new? And may I also know how much(price range maybe?) is it valued here 2nd hand so that if at any point of time anyone decides to sell theirs, I would know just how much to offer.

So are all the FAB pedals not worth buying? By the way, thanks for the replies. They all helped me in some way or another.

RazrAsh bro, I don't plan to gig- at least not at the moment. If I were to buy the Fab Echo pedal, I wouldn't be stepping on it after knowing that it breaks easily. I would 'hand-press' it instead. Based on your experience, how hard is it to 'hand-press' the above-mentioned pedal? A friend of mine told me that it is quite hard. He used to have the Fab Chorus pedal.

UPDATE: Looking for an Ibanez DE-7 instead of the Fab Echo pedal.

fab pedals are very worth buying simply because of the quality of the sound.

and well, i wear heavy ass boots and i tend to stomp down on them in the middle of the song. but its only cracked before, not shattered into a million pieces. so yeah, it CAN be stepped on quite hard. NOT STOMPED ON!

if you think that $100 is not worth it for the work done... you should try rehousing a pedal yourself and tell us it is not worth $100.

anyway... www.sweelee.com.sg has got answers for your price question. its good as a newbie to try calling shops and ask for prices. ballpark pricing for 2nd pedals ranges from 60-80% of new prices.

look around classifieds and you'd find out the regular 2nd hand prices.

I had the fab overdrive two years ago. The bypass switch is a total bitch though. I hated it because there's no 'give' or 'click' that you can get from pedals with 3pdt/dpdt switches and boss pedals.

Fab Echo can be modded to have adjustable delay time. It also self-oscillates so easliy!! After modding of course. Great for noise-making!

I bought my de-7 for $70 off a softie a year back.

Oh man..Sorry edder, bro. I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings when I posted that. I'm really2 sorry, bro. Anyway, thanks for the info razrAsh, edder and sleepykitty bro.

no you didn't hurt anyone's feelings... definitely not mine. just that it can be such a PAIN to do rehousing... so thats why the price.

My 5 cents is, buy 2 Fab pedals. Spoil one, use the other.

Rehousing is fair value and too expensive compared to the price of the Fab pedal itself, so unless you are truly commited to using the pedal for the next 10 years, don't bother.

sorry to bring up an old thread, but i cant really find any answers anywhere else, heh.

im interested in rehousing the echo, but im not sure what value pots to use to replace the current plastic ones in the fab echo.also, its possible to replace the small footswitch the echo has with a 3pdt one?

A bit of poker only. Find it mentally exhausting to grind it out online heh.

I picked up tennis too. Between work, gf, tennis and the occasionally poker game, not much time for anything else liao.

I'm still playing DOTA regularly too! OMG hard to believe WC3 is already 8 years old.
