MediaCorp looking for musicians/actors

Does anybody remember that some time back, a Malaysian hotel angered a bunch of China tourists because the hotel staff had drew pictures of pigs behind their hotel key (or was it some hotel card) to mark them as chinese tourist. The China people got so mad that the whole lot f them staged a huge sit-in in the hotel lobby, demanding, albeit a little loudly, an apology from the manager, who swiftly obliged.

My point is that matters regarding race is sensitive. No race wants to feel discriminated, whether intentionally or accidentally. Personally, I hold those Chinese tourists in high regard because they stand up for what they feel is unjust to them.

"Race: can be mixed but no malay..."
I feel that this statementl is quick to exclude a particular race from casting, because of a ridiculous reason that is probably conjured up in the writer's fairy tale mind. That line alone would obviously raises asterisks regarding the reason why. But then the writer tops it up with a load of monkey crap.

If casting is said to be professional, is it correct for me as an employer to hire a young worker instead of an elderly one just because i THINK that the younger worker would be more productive?

But dude with all due respect, this is not about productivity.

Its about an artistic direction, however absurd it may be. Honestly, I hate analogies and I think they stink of "wise-assness" in all its patronising glory, but seriously, This is a casting issue, not a generic labour-rights infringement.

Whatever it is, the shots will be called by the "director" or the PIC, if you suit the bill, you suit the bill. Please remember that this is after all , just an acting gig.

Credibility and Research is another matter , that is for the critics and reviewers to scrutinise.

If I were to rant (sorry Glen), I would be ranting about the you-got-to-be-kidding-me $30 bucks!@#@!$#

Cheers~ :D

yup looks likes its pretty demanding job..for 30Sing..
also the timing and date not confirmed...

working on this kinda set kinda boring as it can be a slow process and dunno how long need to wait before ur call in ...

why?

do they reward him by pampering him with an
abundance of food, fine wine, seductive strippers
to make him never want to go home?

wad policy??
the 'no malays' thing?

no policy there lah.
casting is casting. they just need a certain look for the parts wad.
anyway it's supposedly 'according to Jap''s memories rite...

strange ...some of my best Malay buddies look like Chinese or Japanese...

Maybe it should have read "Japanese looking actors" required? or Oriental actors - to be more precised?

Oh, Jesus Christ, Buddha, Allah and all the Gods of Hindu!

It's a pure and simple fact that certain roles need certain looks.

Would you cast your mum in Baywatch? (depends on how MILFish she is)
Would you cast Mickey Mouse in a ponographic film (Ok maybe we would)

If they're looking for a band of Chinese people, it makes perfect sense for them to exclude Malays in it.

Would it look strange if a Malay drama series decided to cast a Tamil speaking ang moh? It's not an impossibility, but it's an improbability.

Would you cast Pamela Anderson as a simple demure country girl?

D'oh! (go watch the simpsons)

Those who want to complain just take up it with the people responsible la!! What happened to "don't shoot the messenger"?
