Iron Man was covered in their 3rd album 'First Band On The Moon' with a jazzy trip-hop feel. Amazing cover as well.
yes, i remember that album too! the one with a live pic on the album cover. that's the album that features the hit song "Lovefool". hehehehehhe... i agree with Aging Youth. their cover of "Iron Man" is oooonique!!! i especially love the vocals... sweet, sexy, sleazy, lazy, nice... u wouldn't recognise its Iron Man until the bridge/chorus bit when the riff/melody hits u!

So I guess only the lyrics are similar to the original, and the music's entirely different?

Lyrics and melody are the same but the music is vastly different. Not everyone's cup of tea. Most ppl think that Sabbath must be covered note-for-note or even heavier. Boring... The Cardigans went around and did it the opposite manner...

You should check it out like what echoist has mentioned. The album has some other good songs as well for '1st Band On The Moon'. But I prefer 'Life' though...

Dream Theater ----- Master of Puppets album
Dream Theater------ The Number of the beast album
Dream Theater------- Dark side of the moon album
Iron Maiden ------ My generation (The Who)
Dream Theater ------ A whole load of covers more on their A Change of Seasons EP

actually this is quite common in blues.

big guys usually play other big guy's song.
E.g. Hendrix's Little wing, has been played at least by:
- Stevie Ray Vaugh
- Eric Clapton
- Kirk Hammet (yes, that Kirk Hammet!)

jeff buckley - hallelujah (leonard cohen)
red hot chili peppers - fire
van halen - you really got me (the kinks!)
van halen - pretty woman (roy orbison)

Pearl jam - rockin' in the free world (neil young)
Black label society - war pigs
nofx - hotel california
iron maiden - sabbath bloody sabbath

does anyone have any vids or audio clips for the kirk hammet's little wing?

My fave: While My Guitar Gently Weeps by Jeff Healey. Originally by George Harrison. Still learning to play the leads parts of that tune...
