Maintaining humidity level for instruments

Silica Gel? Cheapest option.

I'm sure there are dry (dehumidifying) cabinets around that fit the size of larger instruments.

For piano, just make sure the heater is on all the time.

you put the thristy hippo in the room? i just keep the gutiar in a case and if i play in a aircon room make sure i wipe the "sweat" or water that condenses after i off the air con before i keep the guitar.

in the case not in the room.. unless u gt a mega huge thirsty hippo..

oh ya.. i just though of something.. if you are a super rich ass.. get a room dehumidifier machine! hahaha

a dehumidifier is pricey...not to mention the bills..
i've got no air con in my room, besides it can't be kept on all the time.

thirsty hippo i know, but they absorb moisture really fast..

regarding silica gel, does anyone know where to get it? preferably in bulk?

Thanks guys!

i'm thinking not TOO dry, but i don't think that'll be possible in singapore. you just don't want moisture seeping into your wood.

right now i'm thinking of getting thirsty hippo and keeping my bass in a hardcase when i'm not using it for more than 6 hours (i.e. overnight, non practice hours)

and dehumidifiers beat air-conditioning sometimes, cuz when u bring your cold guitar out for a jam, u gotta bring it out of the room, so it'll condense. unless you're patient enough to put it in a cool room and wait for it to warm up, slowly wiping off the "sweat"

yep there was this serious case where someone put his LP with alot alot alot of dryer in his case, took it out to play, put it on his lap and the whole thing CRACKED. sad case lol but wood needs a certain amt of humidity in it.

Jus wanna find out also, I just keep my guitar in the bag when I am not playin it, does that help in anyway to prevent moisture? And all this thing abt Spore being to humid which is bad for guitar, is it just paranoia?

have you gone on holidays? take note of the air in countries like europe, japan; the humidity levels are very low. take for example, notice how japanese people have high mohawks, or spike their hair really "sharply"? tried something like that in singapore before? it's not possible, cuz the substance will absorb the high amount of moisture in the air and become weakened.

in the same way, singapore is very humid that stuff left in the open will grow mouldy (rubber), rust (metal), or warp (wood).

Mobius, i think it helps. a similar analogy would be, stuff u leave in your cupboard, where the air is still, like clothes, stay "fresh" (sort of). e.g. you keep your clothes in a cupboard/drawer, not on open shelves. i do believe keeping the guitar in the bag would help a little, but the best is still in a hardcase (even a cheap one) along with a pack of thirsty hippo :D

james should get thirsty hippo to advertise on this site.

"for all your guitar storage needs! fight humidity with thirsty hippo!"
