Mac VS. PC

Lets clear this up once and for all.

Mac is a lifestyle computer. It's got all the essential software to assist you in your daily matters. From reminders, calendars to pics, videos, sound and backup solutions. I LOVE the universal zoom function... I know, naughty, naughty.... :)

These are stuff that comes FREE with every single Mac.

Audio MIDI setup for easy detection, assignment of your Recording gear.
Gigabit MIDI over network for composing with sampler Macs.
Distributed DSP plugin processing over Gigabit network when working with Logic Studio
(This means you could just buy Macs to process tons and tons of plugins over Gigabit Ethernet! Goodbye TDM)
Aggregate Audio device editor to combine/reclock several Audio interfaces to behave and respond as a unit.

Time machine for daily/ weekly/ monthly backup
Time machine or Disk utility system restore if your HDisk crashes.

iChat for Secure video conferencing between chambers and booths, collaborations and recording.
Screen-sharing for connecting to your Mac from anywhere in the world.

itunes for organizing your music.
GarageBand for practicing/ recording/ creating your demos.
Address book to store all your contacts/ Fan data base.
Safari for web browsing, myspacing and facebooking.

iCal for planning and publishing your gigs with details, pics and subscription.
Mail for email blasting to your database.
iPhoto for editing your gig photos. (publish to flikr, facebook option)
iMovie for editing your gig videos. (publish to youtube option)

iDVD for creating DVD Presskits.
iWeb for creating and updating your webpages.
ichat conferencing to keep in touch with family while touring.

More at apple.com

All "i" Applications (eg. iWeb/ iDVD) work with each other what Apple refers to as "Round-Tripping".

This means all your pictures, music and video files could be previewed and accessed, say in GarageBand to create a podcast or a song.

Or dragged from the media area in iDVD to create DVD audio/video

Or using your GarageBand creations in your iPhoto slideshow.

If you decide to go pro, there are solutions that will suit each and every level of your creative needs... At a very decent price as well!!!

You can't go wrong with a Mac. If all else fails, run Windows on your Mac.. As far as I can understand, Macs will dominate for a little while longer than expected.

All you need now is a pair of ATHM50, a pair of Rokit 5s, An Audio interface from Line6 (comes with decent guitar emulators), your SM57/58, you and your instrument.

What are you waiting for?

Hope this helped.

ignore all one-sided suggestions. U must always know that using mac does not mean it will sound better. Thats total bullshit.

U can find the best answer to MAC vs PC here.

http://www.tweakheadz.com/Mac_vs_Pc_DAWS.htm

To me, a pc is much better for a person who dun have that kind of money to spend. But this is to me. The reason why i say that is because lets say i have a budget of 2k to buy gears for music production, i can spend 800 on the pc, another 500 for an audio interface, 500 for a pair of monitor speakers, 200 for a mic.

If ur budget is 2k, buying a mac means that u won't be able to purchase all these other stuff that u probably need. U buy the cheapest mac is probably like 1.6k already. Then u get a pair of headphones for 200, and a lousy interface for another 200 bucks.

U can ignore my opinion but be sure to check out the tweakheadz link.

Can the standard batteries that come with a MacBook Pro last 7 hours? How long does it last for the MacBook?

Typically Windows laptop is about 2, 3 hours max with the standard batteries.

It is always price price price. I always accept Mac is not for those who can't spent. Apple will stay that way. Got money buy Mac, no money buy PC. Steve Job only care only top 10% of top spender group. That spender group have no problem buying Mac or PC. Apple have 97% of that market share in US.

There two product group that Apple beat other PC maker and cannot be done by DIY. Macbook Pro for Windows Vista(noted that Sony Vaio can be much higher), Mac Pro for cheapest workstation( other are offering from $10,000 with similar spec).

Apple is for people who want brand, design and willing to be cabbage. I am those stupid cabbage people who own such machine.
The logo tell it all.

l0u5y : to update you , I just came back from simlim yesterday, and calculated an equivalent/slightly faster to my studio DAW is under $550 now... :( (recalls years ago when he bombed $1.5K..)

I very much wanna participate in this discussion AGAIN but just sick of it. money is my best friend now and my best friend highly recommends PC + a REALLY good habit of maintenance.

maybe it's just weird cos I know quite a number of my friends whose mac failed (mac is stable but when it fails it's way uglier than windows + they're really famous for the hard drive errors.) and asking me to fix up PCs for them cos they wanna jump onboard my ship.

ALL in all, it's really up to TS what he really wants. posing this kind of question on a public forum would give u the results u see above, it's si9milar to asking which console is btr wii, 360 or PS3, there is no definitive answer.

and kongwee ur information is hoirribly wrong, and i daresay biased. 97% should be the mp3 marfket not the pc ._. more pple use windows for the simple fact that they grown accustomed to it comp[ared to the mac.

why not we juust list out the good points of both the mac and a normal PC/laptop and let the tS decide?

Mac

PC/Laptop
- Easy to use (if u've been using windows all ur life)
- Program compatibility not an issue (most programs work on windows anyway)

anyone got anymore stuff to add ? try no to make it TOO biased.

I'd like to amend Ex14's classic way of comparison. I think we can start a PROPER OS vs OS comparison this time.

Linux
Pros :
Cons :
Mac
Pros :
Cons :
PC (Windows)
Pros :
Cons :

we've got firethorn and guttaralpiss on linux
we've got cheez 'n' me 'n' lou5y on PC
we've got logicdroid , kongwee on mac

never-ending drumroll please!
P.S : this comparison chart does not represent what is better, it just represents who chooses it more for what reasons for what PURPOSE (keyword).
obviously gamers are on PC. (down there they're having a Intel vs AMD + Nvidia vs ATI war)

Linux
Pros : FREE(what we singaporeans like eh XDD)
Cons : OS maybe not as user friendly as Windows or Mac
Mac
Pros : The upcoming OS is DIRT CHEAP.
Cons : macbooks cost alot more compared to similarly speced laptops.
PC (Windows)
Pros : Program compatibility, Ease of Use, Stablity (if u take care of it)
Cons : Infrequent maintenance causes an unstable system, Resource hogging (vista only).

There is a report of Apple a market share of 97% that cost higher than US$1000 in US. I don't bother to look for it.

i loled at ur con post. but srsly if u could put some of the pros and cons of the os it would be better

Linux is giving me a headache at work. All my staff are complaining to me. So I have to do all the IT support now - as a non-IT person who has no time to play around with Linux. Actually, the biggest problem with Linux is compatability. Most people still uses Windows and Microsoft office products. Word is still the standard sharing format. When opened in OpenOffice under Linux, everything gets messed up and it's a nightmare to correct formats. However, Ubuntu 9.04 is a significant improvement over version 8. At least now I don't have to solve the driver issues. Now they are going to set up a Linux server. Oh no....

As blueprint has mentioned, this an an tediously over-debated topic. Probably my final post on this thread.

Apple has done a great job catering for freaky creative types for years now - hence the undying support.

I have yet to hear from someone who will show me a list of how they use their PCs and Linux machines effectively in conjunction with their creative work and lifestyle on a daily basis... or am I missing something?

The talk has always been BUDGET, BUDGET. Yes we hear you! But what about your creative work?

Budget versus productivity. Which is more important to you? And which will eventually cost you more or pay your bills?

My time with Pcs had been extremely intense. GREAT but also a GREAT disappointment as I realized I had spent more time and money trouble-shooting than making music.

On the flip side, I've learnt to trouble-shoot and build Pcs so, if you like, no loss here.

To the starter of this thread. Based on what you intend to do, any PC, Mac or Linux machine will handle the job. The deciding factor I guess, would be what else you want to use it for.

Hope this helped.
Peace and love.
R.
