Looping pedals?

Hey guys what do looping pedals do? I read that it works something like, if ur playing a solo, u can play ur rhythm part first and then ur solo and it will both attack at the same time? Enlighten me?

Oh and if u guys do use looping, wats a good loop pedal?

if i understand this correctly, you are referring to a pedal which allows you to record bits of your playing & put it to repeat at your behest.

one such pedal is Digitech's Jam Man. it allows you to record several tracks & set them to repeat as a backing module while you are playing a solo for instance.

of course it's not. looping units are an extension of the delay effect- which aren't cheap in general.

no i don't own one. might consider in time to come...

I got my JamMan with footswitch from ebay around S$470 (including shipping). 2 Gig compact flash card that allows you to record 6.5hrs of sample costs around S$45 (Sim Lim). So, it's pretty much worth it I guess. If you think the JamMan is huge, look at Boss's RC50...it's perhaps 2 to 3 times the length of JamMan (around the size of a multi-effects). If you're looking for simplified loopers, there's the compact RC-2, which is single-pedal sized looper. But do check out all the specs first and determine which is the most useful/affordable to you :)

the Jam Man isn't a delay unit, it's more of a phrase recorder which has one thing in common with delay- memory capacity. as mentioned by elias, the Jam Man has a compact flash memory feature for extended memory function.

there are non-looping pedals which can loop a short phrase, the discontinued DOD FX-94 is one:

wat about the boss rc-2? The dod if discontinued means i cant get it eh? Wat happened to DOD btw? somehow their pedals just disappeard off the face of the earth

yea its cool but it looks way too huge to luge around. Probably too costly as well. I'm looking at the RC-2...any reviews or opinions? :D

Why don't you go down to Swee Lee to try it out, instead of asking so many questions here? U don't even know how the pedal works. And you wanna buy it? Our opinions don't matter as much as what and how you think you can use this pedal.

Unless you have more than $250, the RC-2 is outta your league.

So start saving up.

of course, the ultimate in gear acquisition is to try them out in person. however, it's good to read/ know preliminary comments so that you know what to expect.
