any old hands can guide me in what to look out for? i've only tried my hand at acoustic guitars.. so need some help in what to look out for in a good electric guitar.. if anybody can provide a good model that'll be great too.. any brand is fine except yamaha.. and my budget is roughly $400, non-inclusive of amps..

thanks!

Whats wrong with yamaha? There are some pretty decent models available, like the yamaha pacifica 112. At least try them out first man.

i've had some really bad experiences with yamaha's customer service so its kinda blacklisted for me, heh.
my genre is more of rock, more of stuff like green day, rooster etc.

Haha, Yamaha isn't the only outlet that stocks yamaha guitars. You can try luthermusic, they have great customer service.

yamaha have got pretty good workmanship for the price, but the one thing that continually bugs me about yamahas, and causes me to greatly dislike them, is that they have the most awful neck edges ever... sharp and really uncomfortable to grab. even after a few years of playing they don't seem to "roll" off nicely. i had a Pac 402S for about 5 years and whilst it was an excellent guitar sound-wise, it had the worst neck profile ever.

I'd suggest the usual brands - sorry no specific models - epiphone (bang for buck, don't let the gibson bashers tell you otherwise), Cort, Ibanez make some good entry level models too... Hamer isn't too bad either, if you can find one at the price. Maybe OLP? Never tried them before but they seem decent.

My advice, just like many other guitarers out here on the boards, is to
1. GO OUT
2. TRY AS MANY GUITARS AS YOU CAN
3. DECIDE
4. BUY

afro:eek:r pr'aps tt craftsman LP...it's $325 with gigbag cable n strap...
u gotta try it 1st tho...some of them r crappy i heard...

i'm thinking of this:

http://www.sweelee.sg/Product_Details.asp?ProductID=1822

is swee lee's website updated? it looks quite nice, my fave les paul design and in a nice color too. stretches my budget a little at $440 but i'm okay with it. anyone has this and can possibly do a short review of it?

another thing i don't understand is all the "humbucker pickups" and "vibrato".. i've played acoustic all this while, haven't really touched anything electric.. so i dunno anything at all.. can anyone tell me what all these devices mean and do? sorry for being so noobish

go to a shop with a good salesman that will explain everything to you without pestering you to buy, explaining to you in person is much better than getting help online. seems tt luther has tt kind of good srvice

I suggest getting a second hand Epi LP which would cost between 300 to 500 depending on the seller. The LP100 is really not worth it.

I also agree with going to Luther. Go there, no need to buy anything. Just ask the folks there everything you want to know. Tell them what you told us, that you only played acoustic, you know nuts about electric. They are nice people, won't try to hard sell you their products one.

The people there sometimes bored, they'll be glad to chat with you about their favourite subject, guitars. So no need paiseh, just get your ass down there and find out everything you need before you buy.

hi.....if u like green day the epiphone suits u cos billy uses gibson if u like gd charlotte then olp suits if u like hard rock/metal bands ibanez/esp suits u just a tit 4 thought.. :D

I would get the Ibanez RG 321MH. Its abt $500 after discount. Serious bang for buck.. its like a low cost PGM. And hassle free, if you are not into the tremolo thing.
