What do you guys use?

I'm looking at a set of mini locking schallers for my #1 strat. My Fender MIM Hss strat.

Some questions too, is changing strings different/harder?

Thanks!
James

hmmm just my opinion but i'd go with regular high quality tuners..got a tele with regular tuners that nvr go out tune and another tele with schaller locking tuners that go out of tune after bends..

Your problem isn't the tuners... I guarantee it...

Schallers... Comes stock with my Balls. I swear by them these days... When I need to clean my fretboard and take out the strings, I swear...;)

Changing strings even easier... No need to wind so much.

1/2 turn gao liao!!!!

Thats good to hear.

Im looking into options now.

Between. the Schaller mini locking schallers, planet waves auto trim and sperzel trim-lok with "the D thing" E drop tuner.

Any opinions?

Cheers

Yes it's easier to change strings with locking tuners. Winds plus locking tuners, a bit overkill, but it makes me feel shiok.

Hi Guys,
I use locking tuners on all my guitars,
I generally use Sperzels, which are great, I use Schallers on my H series guitars, and have used the Planet Waves.
I was a bit unsure of the build quality of the Planet Waves, but they have proven themselves to be good performers, they also have this neat feature that cuts the excess string off as you wind them on.
Sperzels also have a nice feature, in that you can unscrew the winder off the machine head and reverse it, so they can be either left or right. great if you are building a guitar with 2 + 4 or for a seven stringer
Sperzels do have a lower gear ratio than the schallers, but it is not too much of a difference

I have over 50 guitars out there and lockers are on all of them.

The problem might not be with the tuner, but I do believe that the tuner does matter :)

At least, that what happened to my Gibson BFG last time. It always goes out of tune easily. So I decided to change it Gotoh locking tuner at was suggested by some softies. End up it improved a lot. It's still goes out tune sometimes if I don't play it for a long time. But at least it doesn't go out of tune when I'm playing it.

Now I'm also using it on my main gigging guitar (Modified Burny Super Grade) and I find it very reliable. Changing string wise, it's easy as long as you read the manual beforehand

Thats nice to know pete.

Whitestrat, indeed it is, at least you know its a trusted product.

btw, my strat isn't having a problem with tuning actually. Im just changing to upgrade the parts on it and Im pretty sure it will have a positive impact..

Beside the tuning pegs, if I'm having tuning issues, id take a look at the nut too..

Right on...

BTW, there's SOMETHING I got to tell you about locking tuners. Because they use very little string to hold itself tight, when you do have some work done where you need to remove the strings, get ready to swap out the B or E strings anyways, because whatever length left, might already be a little slippery for the re-gripping of rthose strings.

Othere than that, they're perfect.
