We should do something... to make singaporeans pay more attention to local music.

i mean of course legally la.
like open the music industry more.
Other bands should support each other.
More gigs. make it open to everyone.
The best is local radio staions should broadcast local music more.
Local tv stations should telecast local bands.
as in interviews or music videos.

Anyway. i think there is no such thing as local and foreign music.
THERE IS ONLY MUSIC.
Music is universal.

khai. wad ya guys think?

Hey i agree that Singaporean local bands do not get any attention and therefore, local bands don't get anywhere..I suggest that more gigs should be held..And local kids like me,btw im only 14, doesnt get any oppurtinty to make music...Not even in school..Singapore should held competitons for schools..In that way music will get somewhere... :?:

i think that the "local music scene" here is already getting better...
with 987 home, 98's local music feature...
well, one step at a time...

ronin was the feature band for two radio programs in one weekend. that is a lot of exposure for local band already. one for 987home and another on power98 rock revolution. that's more exposure dan sum american bands already lor! if u wan support why don't u write emails to 987dan@mediacorpradio.com or supermario@power98.com.sg and talk talk bout the popular bands and ask them to gif more exposure? the action is all up to you. electrico was supported. rafe reach number 16 on power98 charts. so cool. now ronin having double special on radio and album also adverrtise on both station. all u need to do is express support and radio take it for real lor. talk talk talk email email ronin, rafe ugly morning b quartet. dun just say, but do! "do or die!"

no point suggestin when the power is in your hands to let ur voice be heard. u know how to do it, u know where, u know when so now u can. but u all got to take that step up and act and not assume others will do it.

one of the reasons why some ppl underestimate local music is because of bands who seriously play trash...so ppl estimate that most or all local bands are like that so they simply don't bother....

asf

Ya! maybe angmohs are more handsome.
But like wth? we're listening music not faces. lol

Anyway. i suggest a meeting and we like you know.
BRAINSTORM. in the process, we can also discuss alot of things.
I mean here is a good place to discuss, but isnt it better if we can do
face to face?

den after we have come up with good ideas and shit.
WE can pass it to james(soft) and maybe he could do something..
lol... ok maybe we could do something. lol...

I agree we have the power or the power is in our hands and shit.
BUt c'mon, If we get all the help we need, It'll be Great... more bands introduce and stuff.

wadya guys think?

khai.

khai_stereotype, there's only 1 solution to your question. Go and buy all the local albums that you can lay your hands on. Ask your friends, neighbours and family to buy these albums too.

but are we missing something here? do we 'force' people to listen to music? would you want someone to keep telling you to listen to 'abc singer' or 'xyz band'?

we must understand that people listen to music for enjoyment. if we dont find enjoyment in the music, there is no way we can listen to it for more than 10 mins.

if we want mass acceptance, we got to play music that the masses like. if the masses like pop, play pop! if the masses like waltz, you better not tango.

as much as i promote music making, i do not think that we should support bands just because they are local. audience want to be entertained, doesn't matter if it is local or international. as long as it is good music.

I think it's lazy to rely on someone else to carry out and execute your ideas. If you have an idea, try it out. If it works, great. Improve on it. If it doesn't, find out what's wrong and improve on it. Dun depend on others.

It's best to literally do it yourself and learn along the way. Then it will be less talk and more action.

the more we shud prove to d people tat wad dey r tinking iz wrong.we can tri to promote local bands album by givin dem a chance to listen to it.den dey wil sort of realise dat spore du hav a lot of budding talents!

i think it all starts with the marketing big boys like the radio or tv first. To build a music industry, we have to bring in every other industries to support it. But many big companies do not dare to invest at all, for musicians, its passion but for other companies its just money. just think how taiwan or hongkong does it in the early years. even thai and china are progressing fast now. Too bad Mr LKY never really focus on entertainment in our early days.

actually, it's a good thing Mr LKY didn't focus on entertainment in our early years. if he did, we wouldn't have the strong, stable economy that we have today. the same strong, stable economy that allows us to sit back, relax, and complain about our lack of entertainment.

well thats very true, but maybe if we focus on that in the past, we are already even better than hong kong already? so just hope the big players have the guts and forsight to invest on our own people.

Local Music

this is what i think,
in order for Local Bands in Singapore to be more recognise and gain mass attention, its best not to just concentrate on the scene here.
The industry here is obviously small, the markets are more open to foreign talents. Yet its still hard to please the local singaporean society to dig into local music. The radio are trying their real best to do so. at the end of the day, still up to the listeners to choose. In fact This campaign of making the Industry aware of the local scene had been ON since the early 90s, when people were doubting the new talents back then. The way i see it now, bands nowadays have gain many viewers and attendance. It shows that most bands today are more capable of pulling more crowds. The question is, will they sell more albums as how they pull the crowds during Live performances? let alone at gigs that are FREE.

Open up to the world, Our Time is NOW!!!!!

Yea, i'm thinking of ways nowadays on how to widen the music industry.
I maybe one person, but my hopes and dreams are big.

Like wad are singaporeans thinking?!
There is no metal music, punk music, local music, foreign music
THERE IS ONLY MUSIC

but what soft is right anyway. we first have to
cater to what s'poreans want first.
then after we got the buyers of album and stuff.
We can then slowly switch to what we like.

I BLEND MUSIC WITH DIFF. GENRES.
for eg. Emocore and latin.
i do. lol.
