Wassup Everyone!
I know little basics of guitar, i would like to find a great instructor to guide me along. Please tell me whether there are any reputable local guitar teachers with many many many students? I don't mind music schools or private teachers. i want to learn from the best instructor, although i am not the best student  the older the teacher the better, more experience i believe:D Please enlighten this poor taxpayer!

thanks,
Guy Lee
p.s: Don't u laugh at my name, LOL it's my real birth name. and no i'm not into metal music, I like the material.

since u have just started learning, whats the point of having the best teacher,if its just another guitarist that has a little experience and is able to pull off all the techniques etc. y not get him?its cheaper ,afterall they will be teaching stuff tts about the same, and he can go at your paste of learning.of course a more experienced teacher will lead you off better, its just a matter of time,teachers/instructors are there to show you the way, afterall it still depends on you whether you want to PRACTICE or not,if you dont practise, whats the point of having them? rmb,PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT. haha  hope this helps.if u have the money,by all means get a better instructor,if not then heed my advice, helps u save up a sum. :D

Go yamaha if you want to waste time and get a cert. i would actually recommend you to go for guitar lessons now, it's better for you to be guided now and have your bad habits addressed begore they are too deeply ingrained. further more, you will go faster with the guidance of a teacher. what kind of stuff do you play guy? there's a sticky at the guitar how-to thread for teachers.

LOL You made me sound like a guy with NEVER PRACTISE and do my homework. you mean if i practise i can be perfect? what if my future semi guitar teacher teach me stuff that are not so correct. then I will perfect my mistakes?lol . actually i scared of picking bad habits lah, i want to learn guitar in a good proper way under a good teacher. it's TOUGH to unlearn things if i learn it wrongly in the first place. i don't want a teacher who plays in a band and teaches me how to do hammer-on or pull-off and then walk away. sorry if i sound like i'm proud, but i am not. i used to have a guitar teacher who is like that. so i am scared to have the same type of teacher

oops is my thread posted in the wrong side of the forum? I apologise.

!! mistaken la..wrong idea..not saying that ..what i mean is if u are still at an elementary stage, getting a pro and an intermediate guitarist, they will both know about elementary stuff, right? and they'll both probably be teaching you the same stuff,so y not go fo the intermediate one, cheaper.

hope this clears things up, :D

STRATS u are so right! i totally agree on what u said. i need guidance since i have pick up LOTS of bad habits on guitar playing. YAMAHA has individual and group lesson, which one do u think is better? YAMAHA wastes people's time meh? LOL. I heard from my bass friend that they make newcomers pay $100 deposit waht the H? I saw the sticky on guitar teacher, GOOD ONE! As for waht stuff i like to play, i hope to be able to play in different styles. But for now i can play songs like half of "purple haze" using tab. I need some theory foundation  I tried to learn online but I have problems guiding myself

rgs,
Guy

yeap..and you cant just stick to the same songs u've learnt in tabs forever,so hopefully you will get your theory lessons up in no time! :D
rmb practice makes perfect.nice name btw, guy.

Strongly Disagree.

I think what STRATS mean by is having a teacher can let u get to the next level. no? Or is it a strict teacher make you stick to the basics so firmly that u can't move on? 8O

How fast u will progress also depends on the individual. If u don practice wat the teacher taught u still be stuck at the same level. A guitar teacher's role is more to guide u, point out ur mistakes, ensure u have good habits and so forth.

in any case fullmetalblahblah, i will still strongly recommend you to go for lessons. Yamaha. in the course of the 2 year course, most of my friends found out they could learn all that in the space of 6 months. you decide.

Sry, if i don't use quote button, people won't know what i'm talking about! sometimes i do overtalk lol. ok i'll trim the paragraph to lesser sentences. don't hate me for using that sinful button

Please Do Not use the Quote button when you are replying in the forum. Use it only when you are referring to a point that another user made, not quote the whole paragraph wholesale.

Also I will explain my post.

I have been to Yamaha. In the short span I was there, I realized I was picking up things FAR faster on my own than the rate they're teaching there. Over there, teacher gives out songsheets, flips on a backing of that song and leaves the guys to practice on their own. Everyones having their amps at 10 and mucking around that you can barely hear yourself. So I left and realized, that if you pick things up yourself, you will have more drive to learn.

I know many musicians who have had tutors since young, but due to that, become lazy and spoonfed when it comes to learning. This isn't particularly good. A little bit goes a long way.

I hope I have been well received and not misunderstood.

i agree...i tink yamaha is a waste of time & $$...i tink its betta to learn on ur own...i mean if u learn on ur own & find out where ur problems are, u can rectify them immediately...& u can start of with tabs 1st...but try to learn songs by listening to them...we cant always rely on tabs all e time rite haha...& look out for guitar websites dat give tips on techniques & so on on how 2 improve urself...yup dats wad i tink...

strongly disagree. you would most like develope bad habits *especially with your picking hand* and wouldn't notice it until someone tells you.
