Larrivee guitars

Hey guys, I'm real keen to get a Larrivee acoustic guitar.
read about them..value for money stuff.
but guess what..their authorised dealer in sg is very anal, and if possible i do not want to buy it from them.
firstly...which guitar store will quote you the price of a guitar from the catalogue? it is the very first time i've seen someone doing such a practise..
for example..a LV-03RE is about 1.6k USD on samash.com
and he's quoting the RECCOMENDED RETAIL PRICE X 1.5(or whatever the USD rate is on the day of transaction)
i mean even if we ship if over..it cant be that ex
very unfortunate that ranking sports has very limited models for larrivee

any idea where else carry larrivee guitars? or is anyone out there also keen at getting a larrivee guitar?

I think you can use Vpost. Shipping isn't that ex as long as you are not using those major courier/shippers.

Good luck getting a Larrivee in SG. I would get a Taylor or some other brand instead. I do own a Larrivee OM-03RE.

yea..it is..and the experience has not been pleasant..seems overpriced too
how did you get your larrivee dude? I love a 714ce but its just too expensive man...who doesnt want a taylor? haha. but its sometimes good to go for smth that is value for money

Apart from the neck, I'd say Larrivee is better. I used to have a 814CE Pre NT Neck. Even though specifications wise the Taylor is superior, acoustically I really found the OM3 to be better. But it's not a fair comparison since the OM3 is satin finished.

I purchased mine in Vancouver. The 03 series are made in Vancouver. I could probably walk to the factory if I wanted to. 05 and above are made in the States I think. Second copies sometimes go for $800 - $900 CAD. Or about $1.3 SGD.

Good luck finding a used copy though. I've been around these forums for almost 8 years and I've seen very few copies of Larrivees going for sale. Theres a L-03R going for sale on G4C though.

Taylor 214 or 314 should fit inside your budget. The sale at Citymusic should also have some Martins that are excellent players as well. Quite a few all-solid going for less than 2k SGD.

If you are still dead set on getting a Larrivee, Tomlee in HK might have some, considering I bought mine from them in Vancouver.

Thanks, I personally didnt like martins. essentially, i felt that larrivees are value for money and canadian made guitars shld be just as promising, larrivees are really under rated. 314ce was quite good, but i just love the sound of indian rosewood back and sides..hence the diversion over to larrivees..
same price..but better wood.
314 is around 2.5k
LV-03RE is aroun 2.5-2.7k
so yea

Larrivee guitars are great for the price. I own one myself. bought from Ranking Sports then. I've walked around Singapore trying out different acoustic guitars like Taylor, Martin & Co., Gibson, Takamine, Lakewood & Ovation. though it is true that the higher end models of those guitars sound very good, the price difference just does not match up.

I was looking for a good sounding acoustic guitar but I feel that spending $3000 more just for a slightly better sounding guitar is rather ridiculous. I spent $1800 on my purchase although I have to admit that the high end Taylors and Martins were very hard to put down.

now for the bad. I feel that larrivee guitar necks tend to go out of shape very quickly. I've seen down at Guitar Connection that most canadian ( namely Seagull & Larrivee ) made acoustic guitars encounter the same problem. every 1 year or so, I have to bring it down to do a setup involving the neck. its probably due to Singapore's climate but that is just a guess.

another irritating issue that I would like to mention is that the battery compartment of the guitar has to be unscrewed in order to change the battery. I find the design very lousy as most acoustics with preamps built in them have very easy battery access.

hey, i'm the dude selling the l03-re. gonna fit it with better electronics though. do drop me an sms at 90301615. looking to sell it off slightly cheaper at 1.7-1.8 k. got 1 major ding on the top of the guitar. bout the size of a 20 cent apart from that, the guitar is looking amazing and sounding amazing too. :)

The newer ones are pop-in and pop-out design. Mine is the LR version. Which preamp is yours using?

thanks dude..but im more keen on the one with a cutaway.
